Parenting after a Loss

If you BF do you drink caffeine?

It doesn't bother C so I am back to 1-2 cups of coffee or a Coke on most days.

Re: If you BF do you drink caffeine?

  • When I drink or eat it (chocolate), it doesn't seem to bother her at all. In fact the diner by the hosp made the best coffee I've ever had and I drank it several time after I gave birth.

I even went back there (1/2 hour away) to get it after we got home.

  • Me too.  I drink at least one cup of coffee a day (these days I'm up to 2) and eat as much chocolate as my heart desires.  It hasn't had any affect on Nora. I'm so glad too because when I go back to work I'm really going to need that coffee!!
  • Yes, and a lot of it these days.

  • Yes, from what I have read only 0.5 to 1% of the caffeine even makes it to your breastmilk
  • yes. Not drinking caffeine with a new baby is a cruel joke.

  • I do.  A cup of coffee (OK, two) in the morning to bring me out of my coma and usually a soda at lunch.  I don't think it affects DS at all.
  • Nope! I drink decaf coffee now some mornings. Usually caffeine free teas. But I have had chocolate and coffee ice cream and the caffeine doesn't seem to affect my LO. Just don't see the point of going back to caffeinated beverages since we are hoping for 2 under 2!

  • Sometimes I will have a cup in the morning but notice when I pump, I don't produce as much as I do when I don't drink coffee...so I have cut it out since I'm having supply issues now!  :(  I MISS my coffee!!!!
  • Just finished a cup of pumpkin coffee!
  • I do, but I try and wait to do it right after a feed. Havent noticed it bothering her at all.

  • Yum! I love all the fall flavored coffees.Pumpkin spiced latte is my fav!
  • My sister said caffeine kept her DD up, so I've been scared to try -- my DD already has some serious sleep issues. I really miss Diet Pepsi!
  • Nope. I get everything decaf. I do eat chocolate, but it has about 1/16 the amount of caffeine of coffee.
