Interviewing pedi's...

I think I should get on this- I'm 24 weeks...

I have researched a couple of sites with questions but what did you find were the "most telling" or most helpful questions to making your decision?

I dont even know where to begin...

Re: Interviewing pedi's...

  • First on our list was vaccine flexability.

Others were, in npo: Location, Sick/Well entrances & rooms, ease of making appointment (ours is now three months out for well visits - annoying!), short wait time in office and exam room, ***after hour/weekend system (ours has a nurse screen the calls and the on-call doc calls within 15 minutes - non 911, obviously), ours has two newborn nurses...which was great for bf ?s and all those little "what do I do" ?s in the beginning, the ease of seeing the SAME doctor - instead of getting shifted around to another or a np, good general attitude in the office....

  • We didn't interview pedi's until I was 34 weeks.

First, we looked at who was nearby that was covered by our insurance. We narrowed down our search by how far we wanted to drive to get to the dr's office/pharmacy, etc. We basically asked the same questions of those we interviewed - their perspectives on vaccinations, breastfeeding, & circumcisions (since we were having a boy and were still undecided on what to do). The two we interviewed had very similar features and perspectives, but we ultimately chose ours because of their approach to their patients, the amount of time they spend informing their patients of things (we get almost weekly newsletters of hot topics), and how they go out of their way to make sure we could avoid emergency rooms during off hours as much as possible. We just both knew the second we walked out of our interview that that was the practice for us.
