I came into work early so I can leave at 3:30 this afternoon to pick DD and her grandmother up at the airport. We are sooooooo excited!!!! There was days that I did not think this day would ever come.
For everyone out there that has had roadblocks or were told it can't be done we are here to say it can. I don't know the whole story yet but during the Visa interview DD's grandmother was told that they had NEVER approved a adoption like our from Canada to the US. They only do about one a year for close family members. For people who do not know we did a private adoption from Canada with a child in state care.
Re: Today DD is coming home.............
In Canada the transition is a long process of visits day visits, weekend visits, week long visits, then the child just stays with the new family.
Since we can not do this her grandmother is coming to stay for 2 to 4 weeks to help get DD adjusted before she leaves. Keep in mind DD is 2 years old and the grandmother is the only person that has cared for her since she was 2 months old. DD came for a visit in Jan. for three weeks and we went to Canada in March for a weekend to fulfil a requirement of meeting the SW in Canada. So we won't be total strangers but for a small child it could be hard. We will take on DD care but have her grandmother for back-up if she gets to upset. Grandmother will stay with us some about two weeks then she will stay at my mothers down the road and come and visit. After she leaves she will return in 2 months so DD will not think that she has been abandoned. We are doing all of this for DD and to meet Canada's requirments.
Yay! Congratulations to you. How exciting. Wishing you a smooth transition!
