My Mom had a fit when she found out that I bought a few new 0-3 month outfits. She said the baby will only wear them once and that I should be buying 3-6 months.
Not all babies come out huge. I've limited how many newborn clothes I've purchased, but I have a good amount of 0-3 and 3-6 month clothes. If he only wears them once or twice, that's fine- I'll save them and use them for my next child!
We're buying main 3-6 mon, because every shower that I've ever been to, majority of the people give 0-3 or newborn clothes. So, I'm holding off until after the shower, and see what I have clothes wise for 0-3 mon and suppliment.
That's ridiculous. Your baby will probably be in 0-3 just as long as he/she is in 3-6. S has followed the sizing pretty accurately (most of her stuff is Carter's).
It'll depend on how big your baby is when they're born. If you have a 6lb baby it'll wear 0-3 a lot longer then a 9lb baby.
I'm getting a few of both sizes...I know we'll get a lot of clothes at our shower, but whatever we don't get I'll wait and see how big our little man is when he arrives before buying anything else.
I wouldn't go overboard on them, but they are helpful to have. DS has always fit in exactly the clothes for his age, so he did get some use out of all sizes. If you try to put a newborn in 3-6 clothes, he will be swimming in them.
My DD moved out of 0-3 month clothes when she was 6 months old. She's just now starting to outgrow her 3-6 month clothing. I probably wouldn't buy a ton of 0-3 just in case, but if you only have a few then it's nothing to worry about!
It depends on the size of your baby. Just keep the reciepts and don't cut tags or wash a lot of it until you know how big your baby is then, wash as needed. Chances are you'll need some 0-3's for the first couple of weeks, if not longer.

You really can't determine what size your baby will be or fast he/she will grow. My situation is an extreme but my point is you never known when exactly you will need a size until you actually need it.
My mom said the same thing when I was pregnant with DS. I was expecting a big baby, but when he showed up 7 weeks early I ended up needing tiny things. DS wore 0-3 month clothes until he was 6 months old.

My mother insisted I never buy newborn or 0-3 month clothing...ever...that she'd be in 9 month clothing at 3 months, etc....
So, I like to shove it in her face now (esp when she takes me clothing shopping and STILL won't get the clothes that I need NOW) that LO is STILL in newborn clothes, and 0-3 month is swimming on her.
ETA: "shove it in her face" in a playful way, of course...more of an "I told you so" type situation.
Lily was in preemie stuff for a few weeks and then straight to 0-3. Awkward sizing, she was 4 pounds when she was born but 20 inches! She is now 15 pounds and almost 30 inches! She is wearing 9 month pants and 3 month shirts. I think 0-3 is the better one to stock up on!
It totally depends on the babe... DS has always been freakily right on with his clothes. He wore his 0-3 until he was pretty much 3 months old. Definitely more than once.
I think it's ok to have both. Once my due date gets closer, i'll buy the same clothes and a lil going home outfit in both 0-3 & 3-6, that way if baby comes out bigger than expected I can return the 0-3 if he doesn't fit it. Plus my baby shower isn't going to be until a week or two after my due date so I'll definately be able to take 0-3's back if he doesn't fit them or if he'll outgrow them way too soon.
It depends on the baby and the clothes. My son was over 9 lbs when we was born, but yet he still wore newborn clothes until he was 3 months at which point he was able to finally fit in 0-3. He is now 2 and wears 12 months pants and 18/24 months shirts. He is short and has a tiny waist.
Thats soo stupid. Buy what you want! It def. depends on baby! My DD was still wearing 0-3 at 6 months! She was not preemie, just petite! so you NEVER know! Def, buy a variety tho. Kepp tags on them you can always exchange! )

My friend has a baby who at 2 months was wearing 3-6 month clothes, but I saw the post above where her 5 month old was still wearing the smaller size. Each baby is different and it can't hurt to have options.
My family has big babies and have never worn newborn sizes. My sister's kids went straight to 0-3 months. I'm buying some of those and some 3-6 and saving the receipts so I can return extras if need be.

I would say get a few... with DS I got 0-3 and actually had to go out and get newborn and a couple preemie items... definitely get them...
DD was in 0-3 months for about 6 months.
You'll never know until you see how big your baby is.

My DD needed a few newborn outfits for the first month. She was 7Ib 6oz and 21 1/2 in long. very skinny and 0-3 was way too big
I would get a few 0-3 months... 3-6 will swallow most newborns
