When do you want to start, when do you hope to have LO potty trained by, etc?
Are you switching to pullups around this time?
Or are you waiting for your LO to show you signs of readiness? (and if so, what are they?)
A friend of mine had a LO that is only 2 months older than our DD and she's already going on the potty every morning. It seems so early to me but I really have no idea...
ETA: Also, what kind of potty or seat will you use? One that goes over the regular toilet seat, or a stand-alone potty?
Re: What are your potty training goals
Waiting for signs of readiness. I believe that the signs are being able to go 2 or 3 hours with a dry diaper, knowing that they are peeing/pooing. I think there might be a few other signs, but I can't remember right now.
All I know is that I am not forcing it, when he seems ready, we will try it!
I bought a potty when she was maybe 1.5? We talked about it and got some potty books (one with elmo that makes a flushing noise) and then it just sat there. Sometimes she would sit on it before bath time.
Around age 2 she actually started going on it. I didn't push it, it was there if she wanted it. When she started going closer to a daily basis I put undies on her one day and we've been going from there! I guess that was maybe last May? We did pull ups if we were going out because she had a fear of the public potty (those automatic flushing ones scared her the first few times). We still do a pull up during nap and an overnight diaper at night just because I have some left. Another sign was she would tell you ' I just pooped in my diaper' or tell me she had to poop (ahead of time).
My advice is to encourage and show them the potty and let them see you go on it, and then sit back and wait for their cues when they are ready to begin.

We've technically started. DS is 2w shy of 1y, but he sits on the potty (never goes) before bath every night. We're just focusing on "this is a potty. You sit on it." right now. (vs. "you play with it" or "you chew on it" or "you bang it on the floor")
I keep hoping he pees while he's sitting on it one night, but he is a hyper little guy and doesn't sit for very long.
I *hope* he's potty trained by 2. We'll see how things go with a new baby in the house. Personally, I see no physiological reason that children can't be potty trained until 3 or 4 like so many are these days, when 30 years ago kids were potty trained at 18-24m. Their bodies aren't any different.
Personally, I blame the disposable diaper industry for promoting the idea that it's unconscionable to try to PT a toddler.
ETA: Once we go full force, whenever that is, we'll use old-school training pants. Maybe pull ups or an overnight diaper for naps/nighttime, but daytime will be real training pants. We might have some issues with daycare, but I'm hoping not.
Another tip that worked well for us. The first time that she was wearing underwear and training I took her to Babies R Us with a couple sippy cups of water + juice (more juice than normal). They have a great family friendly bathroom so we just wandered the store and let her drink and I'd take her to pee for over an hour. I think she went 3 times. It was a great and clean place to 'practice' peeing on the potty in public.
The first month or two she also peed every 20 minutes all.day.long. She learned to hold it a little bit and now goes every couple hours on her own. I only help if she goes #2 or can't button her pants.

With DD (who will be 3 in November) we introduced the idea of the potty around 18mths or so. For a very long time we just left it out and she would pee on it occasionally. By the time she was 26mths she showed interest and was actually PT'd for a week before losing interest, so back into diapers we went. She continued to use diapers for a while and going on the potty occasionally. In May of this year we decided to give it another go and just put her into panties. She was literally pee trained in less than 2 days. Pooping took a bit longer but eventually she got it. So, right around 2.5 y/o she was completely trained.
Now, with my youngest DS he is already expressing an interest because he sees his big sister going. He says that he wants to pee and poop on the potty and will sit there but hasn't actually gone yet. I am not rushing anything but I do anticipate him being trained on the younger side because he so much always wants to be doing just like his big sis.
All that said, we use the little stationary potty in the beginning for the trials and once in full on PTing it is a ring on the big potty and underware. No training pants and no Pull ups other than naptime and nightime.

When do you want to start, when do you hope to have LO potty trained by, etc? We bought a potty around 16 months and just kept it around for DD to get used to. Around 17 months we started putting her on the potty when she asked to go. My goal is to have her trained by the time she is 3 and starting preschool. Realistically since we started earlier I see it happening much sooner!
Are you switching to pullups around this time? As of yesterday we are using big girl underwear with the plastic training pants over them. I looked at the price of Pull-ups and decided regular diapers and panties would work just fine.
Or are you waiting for your LO to show you signs of readiness? (and if so, what are they?) We waited for her to start showing us signs. She was very interested in what I was doing on the potty. She started signaling when she was going and wanted her diaper changed IMMEDIATELY after wetting it.
ETA: Also, what kind of potty or seat will you use? One that goes over the regular toilet seat, or a stand-alone potty? On our main floor we use a little potty chair. On the second floor (where she goes in the morning, before naps, and before bath/bed) we have a ring that goes on the big potty.
A little tip for the automatic flushing toilets--carry a pad of Post It Notes in your diaper bag and put one over the sensor. This way the toilet won't flush until after you take the paper off.
I would love for DS to be trained by 2, but I will let him do it on his own. DS#1 was trained at 18 months on his own. DS#2 has been going in the potty since he was 12 months old. He goes probably 90% on the potty at home. But he doesn't tell us when he has to go, he just strips and goes on his potty. I have no motivation right now with a baby to do anything with it, lol
We will not use pull ups, I did buy some a few weeks back because we cant keep a diaper on DS(We have tried tape, backwards and clothes, he still gets it off), but any way, the pull ups gave him a huge rash.
