Pregnant after a Loss

Shower question... co-ed or not?

Ugh!!  I'm so thrilled to be here... but this shower business is crazy.  This is why I went to planning my wedding in a year to deciding to get married in three weeks... less drama.

Now I'm being forced to decide on all ladies or co-ed shower.  My mom wants co-ed because she wants my dad there and my FIL.... but DH says he thinks men shouldn't have to go.

I'm leaning to co-ed... any advice, thoughts.  What did you or plan to do?

Re: Shower question... co-ed or not?

  • I didn't think a Co-Ed was a good idea..but my friend had a Co-Ed and it was really fun! They did a contest to see who could chug beer out of a bottle the quickest...it was hard...but hilarious to watch! Just cut a little bigger holes in the nipples...haha! Anyways...We had a lot of fun! And you can have couple presents!

  • I think co-ed is nice so DH and your dad can be involved.  I'm luckily getting the best of both worlds because I'm having both co-ed and all women.  It will be co-ed with DH's family and just the ladies with my mom's shower.
  • Ours is co-ed, but DH is comfortable with it all and there will be more men then woman there!!!!!

I love that your ticker is getting to the half way mark!!!

  • We had a co-ed shower and it was great! I had guys come without their wives/girlfriends. We had beer bottle chugging contests along with the girly games. We got sandwich and chicken finger trays and some side items along with beer and wine. We also had like typical backyard party games for people to play. It turned out really well and the guys had a great time. We even had it outside in the rain under a tent and we still had fun!

  • I think it really depends on your DH. Some guys don't mind going, mine would HATE it and it would ruin my time knowing he wasn't having fun. His parents had a co-ed shower for us a few weeks ago with his family and a few family friends that are also DH's friends - so that was good. But my big girls shower - he would hate it and not want to be there. And honestly, I want time with my girlfriends!! So we did both, but if you're only doing one - I say listen to your DH. If you force him to do it, it might make it less fun for you. GL!
  • we are doing co-ed, my thoughts are that i didn't make this baby myself and i would for MH to be there to see all that goes into celebrating a new life, my FIL and MH MH''s grandfather are alos going to be there as well as my BIL, they cme from 21/2 hours away. also i have 2 really good guy friends and i want them there they are like my brothers. it was truly a no brainer for me, BUT i can understand how some guys may be put off by the idea

  • I have never been to a co-ed shower, so I can't really say that I like them or don't like them... that said, a good male friend of mine had a co-ed shower when he and his wife had their first, only it was not called a shower - it was a Barbeque for Baby X.... they had like 100 people there.  He loved it - they had a DJ, open bar, it was outside by the pool.  Of course with so many people they got everything on their registry!

  • My shower with DD was all-ladies.  It was...lovely.  (OK, it was a little boring.  I'll admit it)  We had friends who threw us a shower for DS and it was co-ed.  It was a blast, and I think everyone enjoyed it.  It was more of a drop-in picnic-type event, with no baby shower games, no present opening, just a get-together.  We had no time for any of that stuff b/c DH and I were so busy talking to everyone.  I think if we had done any of the traditional stuff, the men would have just been miserable.
  • Since DH wanted to be a part of it all we had a co-ed shower and it was a BLAST!  We made it a pool party/shower and had drinks and food.  Everyone watched us open gifts and then went and mingled and did their own thing - it really was fun.  We played a few games and they were super fun too!  Baby Bingo worked really well with the gift opening - it kept people's attention.

I later had an all girls work shower which was fun too.  Have fun with it - times have changed and co-ed showers can be alot of fun!
