3rd Trimester

3D Ultra Sound Question

My DH and I can have a 3D ultrasound performed but it's like $200.  So this quesiton is to all the ladies that have had a 3D ultra sound.  Is it worth the $200 or not?

Re: 3D Ultra Sound Question

  • I'm having one tomorrow. It's usually $150 around me but they have a middle of the week special for $99. Does your place offers a discount for going Tues-Thurs? I don't know if I would spend $200 on it.

  • Our OB has the 3D/4D in her office.  We saw LO at 20 weeks and will again for our last us.  It was amazing!  We were chatting w/ the tech during the 2D part, and when she switched to the 3D/4D...we were silent.  We just stared at the monitor.  The pics you get are amazing.  If it's in your budget...I say get it.  I don't think you'll be disappointed.
  • I'd rather have $200 of baby stuff. Or $200 to spend on myself. After all, once the baby comes you're never going to look at the pictures again right?
  • $200?! Ours was $80.  I would see if you have any other options in your area.

  • Nope, it's a $200 flat cost.  My DH says that its to much money especially since she'll be here in less than 3 months.  But I would love to see her before than!Wink

I don't necessarily agree that you won't see them again. We're putting LO's in his scrap book. It's great to see years from now, verses a spa day that you'll need again in like a week. That being said, again for $200 I would have think about whether I can afford it.

  • Mine was $150. I got a cd of still images, a dvd of the whole ultrasound, and 5 color and 5 black and whites. I think it is worth it. I wish I could have another one! It is a great experience at least to do once. That is just my opinion though.
  • We are having ours on Saturday- ours is 150. I have been thinking about it, and at times feel that it is too much money, but will probably get it anyways.
  • I would make sure that the place you are going to will do a re-do if your baby is not in the right position.

We paid $150 for ours....but luckily, they'd bring us back in if they couldn't get good shots at the appt.  LO was turned, sleeping toward my back - despite the candy and OJ - there was no way we were going to get a shot of her face.

They brought me back 3 days later and we got some good shots.  I would have been really upset if we paid that much and didn't get much out of it, other than a picture of her ear - at the first one.

  • WOW I would not pay that, their are so many better things you can be spending your money on right now. I have had one done but it's because it's included in our u/s at our office, if it was an additional cost I would have said no, because it is neat but not worth money that I could use to buy things I actually need for my baby.

  • We only paid $100, but I definitely thought it was worth it.
  • Mine was $150 I think but I'd do it again in a second! I loved it, and so did the rest of my family that attended it with me. We got over 200 shots of the baby's face etc... and the dvd is outstanding. Its a totally different experience then the 2d pics. This kind you really meet the baby because you can see the face. I say go for it!

  • We got a pretty good deal at $99.  I don't think we will do it again for our next baby.  It was really great to see the baby move around being a first time parent.  It helped make things even more "real" and I noticed after the session DH got extra excited about the pregnancy.  So, I don't regret doing it, but probably only a "do only once" kinda thing.

    This.

  • I would keep researching to see if there are any other places in your area. Or ask your OB's office what they charge (most can do them whether they advertise it or not, it's just a switch of a button). Everywhere around here charged $150-$200. I found one place who does a mid-week special for $59, it's only 15 minutes, but so much less then everywhere else and thats all I need! Also I have had friends tell me it's a great place to go.
  • Ours was $175, and honestly, I wish we hadn't done it. It's pretty darned cool, and was fun to show the pictures to family, but I have total buyers remorse now.

  • Ours was $160 for the DVD, CD and a bunch of pictures.  I didn't want to do it at all (i've seen some creepy looking pics).  My husband was all over it.  That was the one thing he really wanted to do.  I'm SO glad we did it.  It was honestly the coolest thing ever.  We got some great shots of her.  We did it at 33 weeks.  You can see her perfectly.  Her fat cheeks and everything.  It's so wild and so worth it if you get a good tech, you wait til at least 30 weeks and baby cooperates.
