Prenatal yoga & back pain

This is for anyone who has been doing yoga....has it helped to stretch out your back, or helped alleviate any back pain? I've had super bad back pain for months in my upper back, all the way across my back. I just don't know what else to do, I wasn't sure if yoga might help.

  • It's definitely worth a try!  At the class I go to, the instructor always asks if anyone has any particular aches and pains and then she'll say during certain poses what problems it might help alleviate.

I haven't been having any back pain, but I did have a lot of pelvic pain.  It hurt to walk when I went in to class last week.  I came out feeling great.

  • Yes to yoga for back pain- talk to the instructor beforehand, she may lead the class or you in a couple of poses that will help your specific problem.

  • Yes! the once a week yoga class I go to has strengthened my upper back so much. I was having really bad lower back pain and then started going and it helped me with my posture and tight hamstrings and hips. Plus it is super relaxing. I feel lighter after my hour and a half session.
  • My next door neighbor is a prenatal pilates instructor and she said the first things she recommends for back pain during pregnancy is to sit on an exercise ball while working, watching TV, whenever.
