did anyone use a midwife here?

we're looking into either a home birth or a birth center and budgeting for it respectively before we start ttc. I posted about this on Eco-Friendly but wondered if anyone here had any experiences in the Seattle area. would you mind sharing your story with me?

oh and cost average. I don't know if/how much will be covered by our insurance so I'd like to get an idea of how much we'd pay if insurance didn't help us out at all. thanks!

Re: did anyone use a midwife here?

  • We used the midwives at Swedish Midwifery and Women's Health with DS. They only deliver at the Swedish Ballard hospital. So that won't help if you are only considering a birth center/home birth. With this pregnancy, we are planning a homebirth. We've decided to use Geraldine Lee of Fremont Midwifery, https://www.fremontmidwifery.com/www.fremontmidwifery.com/Home.html She does homebirth and birth center births. So far, I have nothing but great things to say about her! We also interviewed midwives at Raincity Midwifery and Seattle Home Maternity. There are quite a few others in the area, and most do meet and greets so that you can find someone that you click with. As far as costs, the average seems to be about $3000 for the prenatal care and labor and delivery. Obviously, that is assuming no complications and no hospital transfer. My insurance (Premera) covers homebirth and birth centers the same as hopital birth, so we are just responsible for our deductible and co-pay. Each midwife also has a supply list and you are responsible for collecting the items. I think with the purchase of a birth tub and the other supplied we will spend about $250 for those things. HTH! Let me know if you have any other specific questions.
