not spending $100 on a diaper bag or $500 on a stroller? I know we all come from different incomes, etc, but I'm starting to feel like a cheapskate....Not to say anything bad about you ladies who are spending the big bucks.

To each his own, but I'm already choking on spending $50 on my Eddie Bauer diaper bag from BRU....
Re: Am I the only one
I am getting an expensive diaper bag but only because my MIL is buying it for me. I love Kate Spade and it is a Kate Spade diaper bag. She really wants to treat me to it.
Otherwise I would be looking for just a big roomy bad under 50 bucks!
If I suggested spending 500 on a stroller my husband would choke me. He's actively perusing CraigsList.
Although my little sister (bless her heart) bought me a GINORMOUS Coach purse she wants me to use as a diaper bag. While I LOVE it, there are no pockets, etc. So not practical. But I loved the thoughtfulness! Even if it DID have bottle pockets, etc... I would be so mad if I got baby poo on a coach purse lol...
No, you aren't alone. I plan on taking all the hand-me-downs I can get and then filling in with affordable items. I probably will splurge on a breast pump though.
We are even though we have been saving up for a baby. We did splurge on the nursery set, in my mind, which cost us $1100.00. This included the crib, matress, changing table all in cherry wood. I started looking at diaper bags and stopped when I started to see them at $80.00.
The play pen I want is $180, but a friend offered to buy this for me. I just don't want it to go all away.
I'm spending a little money on a diaper bag. I want one that's actually made to be a diaper bag (as opposed to just a large tote bag) and I want it to last.
As far as a travel system goes, I think we're looking to spend around $200 - $300. I don't want to buy something cheap that doesn't work or isn't safe, but I'm not going to buy a designer stroller either.

I did splurge on a Coach diaper bag but it was on sale for $175 (regularly 400) at the outlet and I loooooooove it.
We registered for the snap n go stroller ($70) and the splurge is the Bob jogging stroller ($390).
i plan on keeping my eyes peeled for bargains wherever i can find them. i don't necessarily believe the best products are always the most expensive, anyway.
happy hunting!
I'm with you. I spent about $100 on a "diaper bag". Its a huge messanger bag with lots of pockets made by Keen. So once it's done at a diaper bag it's still useable as a bag.
Other than that I'm very thankful for all hand me downs and gifts people have been gracious with. I cant justify spending a whole lot of money LO is going to spit up, pee or poop on.
$18 Jeep diaper bag from WalMart was more than worth it!
$450 on the travel system (but, we do get a $100 rebate). We only splurged on this because the carseat was rated so highly in crash tests, and the matching stroller just had to be had.
Not at all. I am not registering or buying a diaper bag. We're using a tripped out backpack we already own - thanks to beneficial experience with our young niece and nephew. So an actual diaper bag seems like a waste of money to me - we just need a changing pad.
So far regarding a stroller - I bought a barely used snap n go at a moms of multiples sale. When baby grows out of infant seat, I have BFF's single stroller since she's using a double now. Why spend the money when a perfectly good, barely used hand me down is right there? And I don't feel bad about not spending the money on this for myself since I bought her both strollers as gifts anyway!
You're definitely not the only one. We're going with a basic travel system, which will be under $200, and we're definitely not spending more than $100 on a diaper bag--I'll either find one at my local maternity consignment store or buy one of the less swanky ones new. Most of our nursery furniture purchases have been under-$100 Craigslist finds. It's nice if you have a ton of disposable income (and can bear to part with it), but at the end of the day babies really don't need anything more than the safe basic option. No one under four feet tall knows the difference between a Graco and an Orbit.
Plus I think I'd have a LOT of trouble explaining to my frugal husband (and my frugal self) why we "needed" a $900 stroller system.
I did buy an expensive diaper bag, but I got a discount on it and I bought the Chicco Travel System, which in my opinion isn't too cheap, but it is a lot less expensive than some other strollers/carseats. However, I used a coupon as well when I bought it and I liked that it had a very high rating in safety. We don't have a nursery since my DH is deployed and I am living with my parents, so that has helped me save on a lot of costs as well.
I will be spending about $200 on a Coach diaper bag. My fiance and I definitely aren't rich, but we live comfortable and we budget our money well. I don't spend money on take out or other things on a daily basis - I specifically save up for items I want to splurge on (like a Coach diaper bag).
If you spend $5 a day on lunch or dinner take out - that adds up to $25 a week - just on lunch. Parking costs $10 a day (at the cheapest lot) so I dont drive to work (saves on gas too) but public transportation still costs almost $100/month. So instead I've been waking up earlier and catching a ride with my fiance whenever he has day work. Just by packing my lunch, and car pooling to work when I can, I have saved enough money to buy my Coach diaper bag.
I am very lucky b/c most of the big ticket items we need for the baby (furniture, car seat, stroller, etc) are being bought by my family. The only things we are buying ourselves are the crib and nursery bedding.
Eh, everyone has different budgets and different priorities. I just want a good, safe and durable product. For some things that means a little more money, for others it doesn't.
The diaper bag I'm ordering is just under $100. It's good quality, I'll use it everyday and isn't stretching our budget so, why not? I can't remember exactly how much our travel system is - maybe $230-250? We just looked for safety, durability and good consumer reviews and the one we chose seemed to be about mid-range in cost.

Not at all. I totally got my winnie the pooh diaper bag at Kmart for 12.99 on sale(norm 14.99) and my travel system from Craigslist for 65 bucks(It's practically brand new, she used it a couple of times, but her parents ended up getting her another travel system for her shower) when it was normally 155 in store. I think I bought my first brand-new item yesterday for Koen. It was a little jungle fisher price bouncer for 32.99 at BRU. My mom totally raised me to be a penny pincher, not a bad thing, I love it.
