NBR: Verizon FIOS?

Anyone have Verizon FIOS? We are at our wits end with Comcast and thinking of switching to Verizon...are you happy with your service? Thanks!

Re: NBR: Verizon FIOS?

  • We LOVE it.  Way better than comcast.  Like you, we too were tired of dealing with Comcast. The install takes all day just as an FYI

  • Thanks for the warning and the response Smile
  • One other thing I forgot to mention that is different from Comcast they will need to install a box outside, my understanding is it provides power we have an older house and my husband actually had them put ours inside; along with an internet router which will be mounted to the wall and a rechargeable battery for the phone if you do the three in one package.  I was worried about not being able to hide these things becasue of the age of my house and lack of power supplies in the unfinished part of our basement but they made it work

  • Hi, my hubby just started working as a contractor for Verizon, he could probably give you some details about FIOS.  Let me know if you want his info!

  • We got rid of Comcast in April once we moved into our home.  We have FIOS now and love it.  With Comcast, I paid about $180/month for much less.  I pay about $100/month for two HD boxes, one with DVR, one with the capability to record in one room, watch in the other (slightly cheaper than just getting another DVR).  We have all the good cable channels but without the pricey movie channels.  We also have a wireless router for the internet.  It does take the better part of one day for them to install FIOS.  We have the master control box with all the wires in it, etc. mounted in our laundry room so no one sees it.  I feel like the picture is much clearer, there are many more HD channels, and customer service has been much nicer and speedy.  I think the only thing I noticed is that there are not as many options on demand as comcast has, especially for free movies.  HTH!

  • We have Verizon Fios.  My husband loves it.  I can't say much about it, I just want the television to come on when I'm ready to watch.  We have a defective DVR box upstairs that cuts off at times, it's annoying.  Besides that the service itself is great.  With Comcast, the internet would stop working at times.  We don't have that problem with Fios.  As pp said, it does take a long time to install though.
  • We've been very happy with fios. I've been recommending it to everyone.
  • Hi - we switched from Comcast to Verizon Fios a year ago and we are so happy! the image quality is about the same but the customer service is incomparable! Fios are extremely polite, professional, efficient and friendly.
