has anyone got one? was it worth it? i'm totally thinking about one since I have back problems to begin with. I found a place here in san diego and its 75 minutes for $85. Does that seem high to you or is that about the going rate?
do you have health insurance? my insurance covers massage and I just pay the co pay. if you can go that route, look into a chiropractor that offers massage.
I got one with my son and it was ok. I actually just worried the whole time about being on my belly (even though I laid on one of those pillow things with the hole for the belly) that I didn't enjoy it. $85 for 75 min seems reasonable - particularly in an expensive city like SD.
yea i have insurance but its tri-care so who knows if they cover it or not. its a hit and miss thing with them. so instead of dealing with them, ill just pay the money.
I also live in San Diego nad my insurance covers massage therapy. I go to the Center for Helath and Well Being and have my first prenatal massage appointment in an hour. I will let you know how it goes. I too have back pain prior to my pregnancy so I am hoping this will help!
I received one at about 18 weeks. No issues but I also ran it by my dr. I paid $50 for hour but I live in a small town. It was okay I truly think it was the person giving it to me that made my experience less than perfect. I would do it again with someone different. Enjoy
Sounds like a good deal to me. I'm getting one in two weeks. I can't wait. DH will be in St Louis watching the Brewers play and I'm going to get pampered! I'm so pumped!
That is actually a really great price for a 75 minute massage. If you'd like an even lower price you can go to a massage school. Because you're pregnant they wont give you a student, they'd give you a graduate who studied prenatal massage. Its about half the price of a typical massage and you get the same treatment you would if you went to a spa or whatever. I'm lucky enough to have a massage school graduate living with me so whenever my back is just killing me and he's willing to give a quick rub down I get it for free. Well, not so much free, he eats all the food in the house lol.
Just a bit of info: Though the people there ARE graduates they are NOT certified (yet). They still have to take (and pass) the national boards. But if the graduate just really doesn't get it even after a lot of hands-on stuff they wont let them work in the clinic or whatever its called.
I have been getting them monthly and will continue until birth (and maybe afterward for some new mama pampering!). They've been fabulous. I have my next one Saturday and feel like I really need it--sleeping has been making my legs pretty achy.
Thats actually really cheap. I would go check the place out honestly. It sounds like it could be sketchy. You have to be careful when you get a massage at anytime and go somewhere reputable but even more so when you're pregnant. There are pressure points that a massage therapist needs to avoid when you are pregnant. Ask about prenatal massages and their therapists qualifications. Ask if they have a pregnancy pillow or a prenatal table.?
You don't need a special table, you can just lay on your side on a regular table. I have a pretty bad sciatica, so I get them monthly. My massage therapist said she won't be working on my ankles and barely touches my feet. It's not certain that those areas will trigger anything but she wants to err on the safe side.
Re: pregnancy massages?
that's a great price for 75 min. I just had one done on saturday for 70 and it was probably close to 70 min as well.
It helps a bunch.
yea that was a definate thing when I was looking them up. They have good reviews.
