2nd Trimester

when did you pick names?

H and I haven't even talked about names yet, and I have no idea when we're going to, lol. I guess since we're not finding out the gender, I don't feel the urgency to choose a name yet.

When did you choose a name? (if you've chosen them yet).

(Disclaimer: I'm not worried. We'll come up with a name when we're ready, I was just curious how long other people waited, or didn't wait to pick names)

Re: when did you pick names?

  • About a year before we learned of being pregnant.  Obviously we were a little early.  :)

  • I'm 23 weeks today and we still dont have a name for our LO. Sad, but I know she'll get a name sooner or later.

  • We've had names picked out for a long time.  I'm talking years :)  We might be changing the boy name though since I'm not a fan of the shortened version of it and I think most people would call him that.

We'll decide after the big u/s on Wednesday!

  • we decided on both names around week 15 and found out the gender around week 18
  • We chose ours at, like, ten weeks which I know is incredibly early.  We just happened to be talking about it with family and we both came upon a name (first and middle) that we really liked.

We couldn't decide on a girl's name, AT ALL, so I guess that part was 'meant to be.'

Whenever is right for you... there are some people that don't decide until they're signing the birth certificate.

  • we've been talking about them since before we were even married.
  • Finally at 22ish weeks we agreed on a name, we had a girls name picked out before the U/S but could not agree on a boy name. Well U/S came and they said boy and we had argued ever since.
  • We had the boy name picked out right away, we threw that name around even when we were TTC. Our goal was to have the boy and girl name picked out by the Big ultrasound, so 20 weeks.
  • We had a full name for a boy and a girl before we even got KU.
  • We didn't start seriously talking about names for DS until we found out we were having a boy.  By the time I'd delivered, we'd narrowed it down to two or three names.  DS finally had a name the day we checked out of the hospital :)

We've started talking about baby girl names, but nothing serious yet.

  • We had a boy name picked out way before ttc. We had some girl names we liked but nothing set in stone. Once we found out we were having a girl we looked online for ideas and came up with a few. We decided to go with one of our original 2 names though. So about 17 weeks is when we for sure knew what her name would be.

  • This weekend we did some brackets and narrowed the lists down from 30 to 3 each.  We'll mull it over for a while.  We think the three will be our final contenders and we can decide closer to the end.  We only bothered to do what we did this weekend because I had a really upsetting week at work and needed a fun distraction.  Otherwise, we were going to wait a few more months.
  • Before we got married. We talked about things like this.

But we refined them a bit once we found out I was pregnant.

  • We started dicussing names around 16 weeks or so and finally decided at about 22 weeks. We are Team Green and got both names picked one Sunday afternoon.

  • Because we are also team green I want to have two names of each gender picked out.  We think we have our boys names, but DH won't even discuss girls names because he is sure it's a boy.  That may wait until right before we leave the hospital if it's a girl.

  • We have our names picked out and just waiting to find out the gender on Oct. 5th.
  • I've had a list of possibilities for a month or two now...but DH won't pick any until we know the genders...

  • We're in the process of weeding through our choices.  DH was so cute because he was looking through his "Pregnancy for the expectant father" book I bought him at the beginning of the pregnancy and he said, "The book says we should start thinking of names now."  Hee hee.  I feel so pathetic because I really hadn't even thought about it until he brought it up.  Whoops.
  • We had a list of possibilities, but did not decide on one until after DS was born and they were stitching me up.

  • We had names picked out before we got pg... but as soon as we got pg neither of us liked the girl name anymore.

So of course we're having a girl. We had been throwing ideas around since the beginning of 2nd tri but didn't think too much about it until we had the u/s. After they told us she was a girl I asked DH "what are we going to name her?" He said "Aubrie." And that was that.

Just last week we figured out how we wanted to spell it.

  • We just started the Great Name Debate of 2009 last night over chinese food.

Since we knew we were finding out the sex, we wanted to wait until we knew what we were having before deciding on a name.  Why make it twice as hard?  So last night, I mentioned something about names, and DH said, "So... okay.  Which names do we like?"  And off we went.  Once we both got into it - it's a pretty fun thing to talk about!

  • we picked ours the day we found she was a girl.  couldn't really agree on anything prior to then and then that day i said a name, he said it was "interesting" and we've just run with it. : )
  • about 6 months before I got pregnant.  I've always had ideas though of what I wanted and DH has similar taste.  The boys final name we did come with together.
  • This time I had about 3 names I already loved for girls and 1 for boys.  Then suddenly, at work...my girl name came to me and the other 3 were dropped.  I would say this was around 10 weeks or so.  It was a for sure thing and I pretty much always thought I would have another girl.
  • We had our gurl name picked before bfp, but we figured out a boy name about 16 weeks.
  • we both just happen to LOVE names so before we were even married, nearly 2 years ago, we came up with our boy name and soon after when my grandmother passed away we knew we would use her name for a girl.
  • before we got pregnant- and then we solidified them once we got pregnant.

    We are also team green.

  • Dang, I am late on this then. :)

We talked about names before we got married, but *snort* there is NO WAY we would go with any of those now.

  • We had a boys name immediately it took us until about 2 weeks before the Big U/S to agree on a girl's name.

  • We finalized our name about a week ago.
  • Started talking about it in May, and had two names picked by June.

  • We haven't finalized anything, but we talk about it from time to time.  We probably won't decide on anything for quite some time.  I think about it all the time though.
  • We chose them before we even started TTC this one.  We are using the girl name we didn't get to use for DS, and picked a boy name.

  • we don't have one, we had one for a boy, and couldn't agree on a girl name... so the search continues

  • For DS, it was a few hours after he was born.  Actually we had a name we were *pretty* sure about, but when we looked at him the first time, we both said, "nope, that's not right."  We ended up going with another name that had been on our short list.

We haven't even talked about this one, though if its a girl we'll probably use the girl name we had chosen the first time around.  Although...that could change too, I suppose!  :)

You have lots of time.  As our midwife told us at the hospital..."Just give me a name before you leave here, and I'll be happy."

  • We've kicked some things around but plan to get serious when we found out what we're having on 10/16 :-)
  • Well we always agreed on a girl name, since I think we were engaged!  But now that the pregnancy is a reality, DH has decided he prefers a different girl name.  We can't think of a single male name, so... who knows what we'll choose if it's a boy.  And apparently girl names are still debatable, which is totally cool with me.

DH doesn't want me to spend money on anything baby related, or even think of registering (he thinks 6 months is a really long time, whereas I'm ready to do it now!) so baby names are a good conversation for us!

  • We decided on names years before getting pregnant.

Even though I always wanted a boy, I never had boy names picked out. I just figured as long as my husband's name was something I liked, our son would be a junior, and his middle name would be my brother's name.

As for girl names, I always knew what I wanted to name my daughter, and once my grandmother passed away I knew I wanted to name my daughter after her.

My fiance liked the names I picked out (especially our son being a junior) so it was really easy actually.

  • Every name I've suggested to my husband he has denied so I gave up months ago until we find out the gender.  We have our big u/s next week so hopefully after that we'll get serious about narrowing down some choices.  We do have the middle names picked out for either gender...after his mother for a girl and after my brother for a boy.
