Was curious how much an LC visit at home runs. My guess is it can't be cheap and since we're adhering to a super strict budget since I'm planning to SAH the first year, I'm curious if it would be in the cards:-)
Pat from the Breastfeeding Center in DC was $160 for a home visit. She's really good but the price is steep. I told myself it was also giving money to a non-profit organization that does community outreach.
I think we paid $150 for one visit back when I had DD #1. With DD #2 I went to the lactation center at Alexandria Hospital a few times - it was infinitely cheaper - I don't know, maybe $20? $30? I don't regret doing the at home visit though when I had DD #1 - I was so brand new at breastfeeding and so frustrated, it was worth every penny.
Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.
Loudoun INOVA (and I think some of the other INOVA hospitals) has a free lactation clinic every week. I went the first few weeks after my DD was born and spoke with them over the phone (also free!!) a million times. They were invaluable!
Just another thought - it may be worth the cost to see an LC (either at home or at a center) if it helps you to continue breastfeeding. The cost of formula is a lot more on a monthly basis, so even spending $150-200 in the beginning may help you save in the long run.
Re: F/U to BF Class -LC Cost
Mine was $110, but, I went to her.
I think someone else said $160 or $200 to come to your house?
