Ohhh: and fun comment from woman at Target.

in 3rd Trimester

DH and I are leaving Target yesterday. I see a woman being dragged by a 2 or 3-year old screaming girl on a leash with a harness type-thing.

She looks at me and says "This is what you have to look forward to!" and then "You should invest in one of these, seriously." (in regards to the leash).

I'm making mental notes of things I WILL NEVER SAY to a pregnant woman once my child is born. Goodness.

    yeah :) as soon as we were out of earshot, DH was like, "Umm, we will not be LEASHING our child." I just started laughing.

    I'm surprised how little these comments are even bothering me anymore. Maybe I've just gotten used to them.

    Those leash things are great! I would use one, my mom used one with me when I was little because I would just wander off by myself and the bells on the shoes wouldnt do the trick in crowded places.

    Sounds like she was having a rough day!
    ***************************** Our beautiful daughter was born in October 2009. Turns out she was quite the miracle. After two years of TTC, diagnosed with DOR. A couple of failed treatment cycles later, we decided to let go of our hope for more biological children and explore adoption.

    this.  sounds more like lazy parenting to me.  there may be days when i would WANT to do it, but.....

    I went to Italy with my Mom when I was only about 18months old, and she used a "leash" on me. It's always been sort of a joke in our house, but I can totally understand using it in that sort of situation. That being said, I'm not going to put one on my kid when I take her to target.

    i wouldnt leash my child but i dont see how her comment would have bothered me at all?

    If she actually disciplined her kids, she wouldn't have to use the leash.  That's just lazy parenting.  I would have just rolled my eyes to that comment.

    They definitely have their uses.  I wouldn't be using one in Target or for shopping or anything like that.  I used one with DS when we went to the fair.  He was a bit younger, but at that age they just want the independence to move around on their own.  With half a million people milling around I'm not that comfortable with not having us connected.  It has very little to do with 'lazy parenting' and a whole lot to do with fostering independence with your child
