3rd Trimester

WWYD?

My parents live 2 1/2 hrs away and asked us to come for Thanksgiving for the weekend (It's in a couple weeks in Canada). I will be 37 weeks then and my doctor has told me before that she thinks that I will be early.

Would you go or decide to stay closer to home just in case?

Re: WWYD?

  • I'd go. why does your dr think you'd be early?

  • I would not.

If you do decide to go, find out if there are any hospitals/doctors that are covered by your insurance...that could mean the difference of thousands of dollars if you needed to have the baby there.

  • I would see what the dr thinks about it..?
  • I would stay closer to home... I have been told that i should expect our little one in the next two weeks and I would not go anywhere too far.
  • I would wait and see how you feel, i know its inconvenient but you may not feel like traveling anywhere or you may feel awesome and up for it. Either way don't push yourself.
  • 37wks is my personal cutoff I've set for myself... I'm not planning on going more than a half hour from home after that point, just in case.

  • That's a tough call. I would ask your doctor was he/she thinks about you travelling a couple hours away at 37 weeks.

  • I'm thinking a combo...see how you're feeling (play it by ear) and keep tabs with doc to see what they suggest. Ultimately, if it is only 2.5 hours away...it's not as though it's extremely far.

Like a pp said, you may find you're just not up to the journey by the time it rolls around.

  • The doc said that she thought I would be early due to the fact that at my 32week u/s the baby was already measuring 6 pounds.

My parents live in a major center and being that we're in Canada, there's no concern for insurance issues since it doens't cost us anything to have a baby anyways.  My concern would be that I wouldn't be near home or my doctor.

I think I'll ask my doc at my next appt and see what she says.

  • Definitely ask your doctor.  With DD my doctor said no traveling more than 2 hours away after 32 weeks (I think 2.5 would have been okay) but at 36 weeks she wanted no traveling at all.

Granted, with most labors, especially first labors, you will be home loner than 2.5 hours, so you could drive to your hospital.  But do you want to be in labor and in a car for that long.  I wouldn't.

  • Call your doc, but if there are hospitals nearby, I'd go. Of course, I'm sure your parents would understand if you're not feeling up to it.
  • That stinks that you might have to miss out on Thanksgiving!  I don't think I'd go though.  Would your insurance be covered in the case you did have to give birth there? Also, if you did then wouldn't your baby be a Canadian?  Not that that's a problem, but your LO would have to go through the entire process of becoming an american citizen all because of thanksgiving.  Chances are you'd make it back in time even if you did go into labor though.

Does your whole family live in Canada or is it just your parents?  Because maybe if it was just going to be you and your parents then they could come to you instead for the weekend?  Or maybe after the baby is born you could have them over for a little mini Thanksgiving celebration?

  • Why not have your parents come up and celebrate Thanksgiving with you?
