Registry advice

I have been reading a lot over the past week or so about setting up a baby registry. I am only 17 weeks pregnant at the moment, so I feel that it so far to early to set one up. How far along were you when you starting thinking about putting your registery together, and which stores did you have them at? Do any of you have any words of wisdom that you wished you knew back then?

TIA.

Kate.

Re: Registry advice

  • do it before invites go out for a shower.

And get Baby Bargains - that can be your registry bible.

  • I waited until I found out my baby's gender (21 weeks) because it's helpful to know what color to buy some products.  The two places I registered was at Amazon and Babies R Us.  I find that either store has everything I need and sometimes Babies R Us doesn't have the same products available as Amazon.

Try to research and read reviews of which products are good before you put them on your registry or add them to your registry after you get home.  It's really sad if you/your friends/family spend money to buy you something that will easily break, spill, etc.  Bring a bottle of water with you when you register because it's a long process and will most likely need to make more than 1 trip.  I used to take a break and rest at the section of the rocking chairs at Babies R Us to rest my feet.  Also, if you even want one product at Target or Pottery Barn Kids, etc. you can start a registry there and get their completion coupon.

  • SOmeone said that Amazon has some new universal registry now so you can add stuff from other stores to your Amazon registry - look into that.. it seems like a cool idea - because then you can also make sure your friends and family dont' overspend.

  • I actually set up my BRU registry online first. I did it around 18 weeks right after we knew the genders. I just started adding things online and then went into the store and told them I started it online and they gave me an information packet. I was also able to get a scanner and go through the store and add stuff.

So I did both and I would say most of it was online, it was easier for me that way.

I also registered at Pottery Barn Kids, just to get the coupon. I only put bedding on it, and the manager there told me to do it, so they were fine with it.

I second Baby Bargains....it was a huge help. I did tons of online research as well and asked friends for recs. Also, asked lots of questions here about what people could/couldn't live without and what products worked well.

  • Thank you so much, ladies! I have just ordered a copy of Baby Bargains, and I think I will have a look around on Amazon as well - I never think to look on there for baby stuff, I have no idea why. I'm just worried about putting more expensive items on there - I just feel really cheeky asking for big items.
