Talk me down, I am starting to freak out. In my sensible head I KNOW he'll be fine, in my mom head...everything is going wrong. TJ is getting circ'd on Thursday and I am so so so nervous to the point where he is going to start picking up on it if I don't stop this.
Also we are going to bring his blankey for comfort, should I bring like a bear or something too? I juuuust don't know.
Re: if your DC has had surgery
Carson has had 3 different procedures. the first was at 7 weeks old for pyloric stenosis, the 2nd at 9 months was having his left tear duct probed b/c it would not open on it's own, the 3rd at 17 months was ear tube surgery. he was fine with every one of them. the tubes and the tear duct probe was just using gas and he was only out for 5-10 mins max, he woke very mad from both (crying) which is good b/c it gets the gas out of there lungs quicker, gave him a bottle and went home, he went on with his day like nothing happened.
the pyloric stenosis surgery at 7 weeks was more invasive, the surgery took about 30 minutes and we stayed at the hospital for 3 days, 2 nights - however he was brand new so for comfort it was a lot of swaddling, swings, sleeping on me. i think with TJ b/c he is older i would definitely take a couple of comfort items. are you being admitted for overnight? if so, bring his favortie jammies, maybe a favorite book. i would try to relax (i know it's hard) but you don't want him picking up on it and he will be following your lead the day of surgery. are you going to a Children's hospital in your area? Cinit Children's has been amazing with Carson....they are so fabulous with kids and they make mom feel comfortable.....they know exactly what to say and do to make you and dc feel safe. GL and trust your mommy instincts, TJ will do great!
DD has never had surgery, but good luck!!!
If it were me, I'd get him a special new stuffed animal and maybe you can put a band-aid/gauze on him to show that he had surgery too.
Good luck to him! Hopefully the anticipation will be the worst part!
He's going to Children's in Boston. I'm so lucky cuz it's like the best around, and they have been so great through this whole thing.
I think you guys are right, I think I'll let him pick out a new stuffed animal and wrap something with guaze. It's just so nervewracking! lol
My son had a tongue tie cut when he was 17 months old. It was hard for me. He cried when they took him away from me to go into surgery, and in post op, he was inconsolable for a time.
The surgery lasted 20 minutes or so. That was nice. And they called me into post op almost immediately to be with him. The nurses were great and very helpful.
I didn't bring any blankets or loveys into the hospital but I did bring his favourite cuddly toy for the 45 minute drive home. It was outpatient surgery.
He did look painfully cute in his hospital gown.
