Rash on stomach - call the doctor?

Our son (17 months) developed a rash late last week on his face, arms, stomach, and back.  We have an appointment to take him to the doctor tomorrow to find out what it is.

In the mean time, I woke up this morning to find a rash (very similar to his)all over my stomach.  Would you call the doctor tomorrow - can rashes be serious?  If so, should I call my ob or general pcp?

Re: Rash on stomach - call the doctor?

  • I would probably see what your son's doctor says tomorrow and ask if what he has is something contagious. Then you can call your doctor knowing what your son has and if it could be related to yours.

  • I would visit an urgent care facility this evening, why not?  Make the appt for him and then they'll want to see yours to help diagnose, you'll probably get a 2 for 1 but since they take insurance you don't lose out.  I'd want to know now.
  • Does you son have all his vaccines? I would be concerned since there are some diseases that are not included in the vaccines that can be harmful to baby such as the 5th disease (its the 5th disease that was documented in the measles family, but the measles vaccine doesn't ward against it). I would call OB tonight and get in tomorrow first thing just to be safe. Most likely yours could be a heat rash, or something, but I would get is checked out sooner rather then later.
