Calling the Dr. in the morning

Well my son has not had a bowel movement in 7 days! Dr said its ok up until 7 days. I feel so bad for my little guy...We have tried prune juice, caro syrup, pedi lite, warm baths, suppository... and Nothing helps.

Can anyone recommed anything else to try before I call the doctor.

    rectal thermometer?

i have heard that, but i think i to scared to try it.. Knowing me being a first time mom i would be afraid i would hurt him, even though you dont go that far in...

  • Is there a healthline that you can call?  I'm hesitant about the rectal thermometer also.

  • I personally think if you have done a suppository...than a rectal temp would be pointless, but I could be wrong!

  • Rectal thermometer is so easy! Don't worry. A little vasaline and in it goes! If I can do it, anyone can!

When my LO was in the hospital at 2 months the nurse actually put half a supository up in his bum.. pooped in 30 seconds.  Who told you to just rub it around the outside?

Vaseline is the last thing you want to use.  It's for external use only.  Try a little lubricant like KY Jelly.

Thermometer works everytime for us, don't worry.  How else would you check LO's temp?  BTW- I have heard of babies going 10 days without pooping and being just fine.

Weird--they use the Vaseline at DS's pedi's office and they used it in the hospital when he was there last. They even sent us home w/ little packets to use. I'm sure the "external use only" thing is to indicate it's not supposed to be eaten or used in the mouth. But it's OK to use in the rectum (and vagina, too, for that matter. Just not if you're TTC b/c it can kill sperm)...
