This happened once when DD was really little - I almost freaked out but I just moved her foot and everything turned "normal" right away. Looks like their circulation is being compromised, right?

Yeh DS's skin gets like that sometimes...the doc in the NUCU said it's called "mottled skin" and it's just due to the immature nervous system in babies. It's almost looks marble like right?

It happens every single time. DH has to be careful how he holds DS, sometimes he holds him a certain way and his legs will turn a dark purple. I know that is not normal. He is probably just holding him too tight, pinching off circulation. However, when I sit him up assisted or stand him up he just gets pretty blotchy, but it still has me a little concerned.
This happens to my DS too, but I asked the Pedi and he said it was pretty normal and more noticable in babies who are very fair complected. If you are worried, call your pedi.
Thanks, sounds like this is pretty common. He is fair skinned...and if he's anything like me, he will deal with being blotchy some times when he gets cold.
No but your child is very fair skinned right? I have very fair skin and maybe it is just the reaction of his skin when he takes in a lot of oxygen. I forget the medical term (kind of like when ppl get nervous or are passionate about something and their face or neck turn red/blotchy)?
This happened last weekend when I laid LO down on her side to take a nap. The arm that she was laying on turned purple almost immediately. I picked her up and it went away.
