when did you dc give up naps?

I think we may be nearing the end of naps :(

My oldest turned 3 in July and still needs a nap but is fighting it to no end lately.  She will stay in her room for the whole 2 hrs just talking at least 3 out of the 7 days.  She gets up way to early to go the whole day without a nap though.  The rule we have is if you don't take nap, no shows after bath and early bedtime.

  • My DD is 26 mos and is fighting her naps big-time. I think she's had one in the last week and one the week before. I still make her stay in her room for quiet time for about 60-90 mins. She usually goes to bed around 6:30 on no-nap days. I don't make it a punishment - she can't help that she doesn't nap. The early bedtime is a necessity, though - she's a wreck.

  • I think it really depends on the child.  DD went through a phase of fighting her naps, but we tried to be really consistent because we know she needed it for everyone's sanity.  She is back to a normal routine of napping 2-3hrs, some days she will just talk the whole time.  However, my SIL has a 5yr old who was still taking naps up until recently when he started all day kindergarden.  If DD doesn't nap, then she just goes to bed earlier 7pm.  I really don't mind if she goes down earlier!
