would you friend your old boss on FB?

I left on good terms and we always got along. I'll email her from time to time. I'd like to keep in contact with her incase I go back to work p/t, we had even talked about me doing consulting sometime in the future. Anyway, I thought it might be a good idea to keep in touch with her that way. WDYT?

Re: would you friend your old boss on FB?

  • Does your old boss have linkedIn? an easy way to keep in touch with professional colleagues.

i try to keep professional and friendly contacts separate. Then again- i always am very cautious on what i post on facebook to begin with.

  • Only if you don't post overly personal info on FB.  It's just not good for someone who may be able to help you with a job in the future to know too much about your personal life.
  • I agree with you both. I am leaning towards not friending her. I put next to nothing on Facebook anyway, so I am very careful as to what I say. I don't do LinkedIn. Do I have to do LinkedIn to see her on there?

  • yes- you would both need a linkedIn site account. a lot of professionals use that as a means to connect and network.

  • I might if I had liked my old boss, but she was a clownshoes weeble idiot so I denied her when she requested me.
  • I have my old boss on Facebook.  My thought is that if you have stuff on Facebook that you wouldn't want your boss to see...then you have issues.  Seriously, you're not in high school anymore.

  • I would but I used to be good friends with my boss (we'd go out regularly, party together, talk on the phone outside of work). ?If you had a strictly professional relationship with your boss I probably wouldn't.

  • I have a few old bosses as contacts. I have a good relationship with them.  But if it was a strictly professional relationship then I would not.  A few old bosses if they were to friend me I would not accept.
  • It's hard to answer that for you. Every situation is very different. I friended one of my old boss's (a guy) and I suddenly realized how much of an idiot he really was. He's around the same age as me, but he got his girlfriend pregnant and married her (all awhile talking about the shotgun wedding and how much he was in love with some other girl). She had the baby, she got pg again to him and then he walked out on his wife and 2 kids to shack up with someone 10 years younger than him. Then he continued to post tacky, vulgar stuff on facebook. Everything was perverted and he swore non-stop regardless of who was on his friend list. I was in shock with his behavior... he seemed so different in the office the 7 years that I worked for him So I ended up de-friending him.

But on the other hand I also friended another one of my old boss's (also a guy) and he's great to have as a facebook friend. He's a total family man and puts his wife and kids first and he's just a great person.

So....I think it just totally depends on you and her and how you feel she fits into your life.

    Good luck!

  • No way!!! Then again,my old boss makes the devil look like an angel so don't go by what I say!
