And this is why I never read the national (age) boards:
https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/22751356.aspx
One of the responses basically claims that her 2.5 month old talks. Aimee&Bill, your kid does not say "aghooter" when you say "alligator".
Does anyone else get the feeling that people on those boards lie all the time about what milestones their kids are reaching? I see 1 month olds "sitting" in bumbos in siggie pics and I just gotta think they prop them up for one second, snap a quick picture before they fall over and then stick it on theBump, claiming their infant sits. Either my kid is a total moron or those moms lie through their teeth.
Jeez.
Re: national boards ::eyes roll:: (C&P)
A chic told me last week her 18 month old spoke 600 words or more. 600. like how do you count that many? I call bull chit.
It reminds me of the SNL skit... yea.. I invented sleeping thru the night. My baby was STTN when she was 5dpo. Yea, my beta was 241 and she was STTN. yeah. My baby is the best at STTN. ;-)
Yes... it always seems like all of their babies are perfect in every way. I always get frustrated reading the posts over there!
And I'm a speech therapist, and there is no way her baby is imitating her words yet!! That bothers me
I had a parent claim that her 1 day old said "dada" though, so I guess people hear what they want to hear
When people ask DH when DS will be talking he always tells them he might say mama and dada at like 6 months. But I always have to point out that he could possibly say the syllables, but isn't going to have any idea what they mean!

This is how I feel about SO much on the 0-6 board. Wow, your 3 week old takes 2 hour naps in her crib and you put her down drowsy but awake? My 3 month old needs to be rocked to sleep and it takes 45 minutes to get him to lay his head down before he sleeps on me for 20 minutes. I saw a 2 month old roll over on there too (actual video, so not lying)...Toodle just lays there, I don't see any rolling at all for the foreseeable future. Yet another reason to stay off those boards!
Don't worry - O is about to be 4 months old and I don't think he even knows the world continues beneath his back. He has never even vaguely considered rolling over. I'm not convinced he ever will.
But it's so much easier to keep tabs on a kid who can't move!

Those women are delusional. Their babies are responding to the TONE of their voice - not what they are saying.
I even notice this from other women I talk to IRL - there are a couple in particular who will ask what DD is 'doing these days', and whenever I answer honestly, their child always seems to be ahead....plus they'll sometimes give that sympathetic "ahhh" tone of "Don't worry, your DD will catch up."
Honestly, I think a lot of newer moms feel this need to brag and this site is the perfect opportunity to do it while still being anonymous. How can any of us actually confirm what they are saying?

This is exactly how dd was/is. It took me 2 hrs to get her to sleep tonight (not the norm, but it does happen!). She didn't roll over until she was 5 1/2 months old. I like to tell myself that its because she's a little behind because she was 6 weeks early. I really think that she either had no interest in rolling or she's just lazy and is perfectly content laying in one place.
I think a lot of it is seeing what they want to see. But some of it could be semi-true. When DS was about 6 weeks he was rolling over. Was he doing it in a purposeful manner? No. But if I put him on his belly, he was so mad and would wiggle enough to flip over. He could also move across the floor in a kind of inchworm fashion. I know that he wasnt really rolling over or crawling like he would be in a few more months but he was doing it. I didnt mark it down in his baby book though. Also, as he got used to being on his belly he stopped doing it because he wasnt as mad anymore. It wasnt until after 4 months that he rolled over for real. He did keep up with the inchworm thing and was crawling with his belly up at 6 months but there are other things that he did late. So I guess my point is every baby is different. It is hard not to compare but it just upsets you for no reason. Your baby will roll, crawl, speak, etc. eventually.
PS I hate when people say their babies are talking when they are really babbling.
