My daughter, Katherine Elizabeth (Kate), was born on Wednesday, September 16. I was 40 weeks, 5 days pregnant, and she was 7 lbs, 2.5 oz and 19 inches long. Kate has red hair and blue eyes and we adore her!
I had a vaginal delivery with an epidural. My water broke at 9 pm on Tuesday night, but I didn't feel anything (just saw that I needed a clothing change) and it had stopped leaking, so the doctor told me to wait until my 10:15 am appointment the next day to come in and be checked. Around midnight, I started feeling crampy, which turned to contractions that were 5 min apart at 2:30 am and 3 min apart at 4:00 am. We arrived at the hospital just after 4:00 am, I was 3-4 cm, and I immediately requested the epidural, which I received about an hour and a half later. The contractions were intensely painful, but after the epidural I felt *nothing*, including during the whole delivery. It was magical!! I kept adding extra push time during delivery since I was in no pain and just wanted my baby! She was born at 10:45 am and I had only minor 1st degree tears, although my placenta didn't come out in one piece so they had to go in after the rest. Kate scored 8 and 9 on the apgar. We arrived home from the hospital yesterday (Friday) and couldn't be happier. We are exclusively BF'ing, and it gets easier each day.
