2nd Trimester

Waking up with heart burn/indigestion.

For the last five days, I've been waking up with DH around 5-6ish in the morning for work, and I've had really bad heart burn/indigestion, its more indigestion then anything. However this morning, its Sat so DH got to sleep in, but like clock work, I woke myself up around 5 am with REALLY REALLY bad indigestion. I've never felt indigestion this bad in my entire life, I've never had hear burn or indegestion until I got pregnant. Anyone know of any tips that can prevent this from happening?? I had pizza kind of late last night, I'm thinking it could have been that, but it happened 8hrs+ later. I eventually took some maalox and got the heating pad out, it was hurting so bad in the center of my back I could barely stand it. I'm fine now, but it really hurt and it was really annoying. Any tips?? TIA!! =)

Re: Waking up with heart burn/indigestion.

  • I've had terrible heartburn the whole pregnancy.  I eat really bland food and take zantac 150 twice a day, and still get reflux sometimes.  It's awful.

But get some zantac, that will help.  It's OTC.

  • I seemed to just have the problem of having really horrible heartburn (hurting through to my back) at night so I just stopped eating as late. I also stopped eating as much bread and both of those things made a HUGE difference- my heartburn is much, much better now.

If you are trying to fix this without meds, try altering your diet a bit and the time that you are eating. If you don't care about using meds, I highly recommend Zantac- one of my other pregnant friends has been using it and says it makes all the difference.

Note about Zantac: It's very expensive and your doctor may suggest that you buy it OTC. If your insurance helps cover prescriptions, get your doc to prescribe it- it'll be much more affordable! GL :)

Depends on your insurance... mine won't cover any meds that can be purchased OTC, like claritin or zantac.

  • i also take zantac 150mg twice a day and one prilosec otc once a day... at our walmart, the generic zantac [ranitidine 150mg] is 4 dollars for a bottle of 65! and prilosec is 9 bucks for 14... so a little bit more, but so worth it.

also, when indigestion gets real bad, mint gum always helps me! =] feel better!

  • I take a Zantac 75 every night at bedtime and it works wonders!
  • Prilosec OTC is the best stuff on the planet and worth every penny. I am madly in love with it. I had xsactly as you described with my previous pg, waking up with heartburn so bad I would almost throw up. This stuff worked in 2 days and it never came back. I started taking it again 6 days ago and have not had 1 second of heartburn. It is the best.
