Pregnant after 35

1 week post partum- down 20 lbs (x-post)

Hi!

I gained 39 lbs. Now, a lot of that is REAL weight as I gained a ton in the first tri due to going nuts on everything edible. One week pp, I am down 20 lbs without trying at all. I am attempting to BF- not going all that well but I am still at it and not giving up.

I have about 39 lbs to go to be where I feel most comfortable and it will be a long road but just wanted to give you all hope that you really do lose quite a bit right after birth :)

  • Thanks Jen!!!  I was JUST asking my friend who just had a baby this question.  I have been eating nonstop and really need to get a grip but its a little bit comforting to know that a large amount comes off quickly after birth.  I was 10-15 lbs over where I should have been when I got pg so I'll have some work to do too!

Anyway..thanks for posting and Jace is just adorable!!

  • That's awesome!  BF is hard at first but it gets easier after the first two-three weeks.  It really does help with the weight.  GL.

  • Wow. That is wonderful and hopeful! I hope you are doing well and settling in being a mommy!

  • Wow, Jennifer, go you!  :)

I admit, I can hardly wait to stop feeling like an absolute elephant.  It's nice to hear the first week's weight loss isn't a myth!

  • That is so awseome!!! Your daring for looking. I haven't looked yet!
  • Isn't it amazing how much you lose the first week? I gained 50 lbs during the pregnancy and Iost 30 the first week postpartum. Now I still have 20 or so to go, yikes! I'm still wearing maternity pants and some t-shirts cause they're so much more comfortable than my old clothes.

Now I just need to get some kind of postpartum belly support to shrink things down further. I got my ankles back too, so awesome!

GL with BFing, I'm hanging in there with that but it's not too successful. I BF and then have to supplement w/ formula. and pumping is a PIA, I've only done it 3 times in a week. I figure if I can BF until I go back to work, that will be enough. I honestly don't know where in the heck I would be able to pump while at work, there's really no place.

  • that IS encouraging. i am in my 1st trimester and know i shouldn't be gaining really during this month. all my cravings are uber naughty for me, oooey gooey, rich, tasting foods. oh and we've gotten back into the bad habbit of having sweets after dinner at night. all this doesn't get helped by the restriction from exercise by my RE. i hope my OB that i get to see finally on monday will lift the ban, to a greater extent anyway. just let me get some good cardio, maybe even some pg yoga.

  • That is awesome and, yes, very encouraging!! I am just like you, I put on much more weight in the first trimester when I had an insatiable appetite. Now? Not so much. I'm at 35lbs with 8 wks to go - a little more than I'm comfortable with but, I'm looking forward to going back to Weight Watchers to shed those stubborn pounds that don't want to budge.

Good job. I know you look fabulous.

p.s. Jace is one handsome fella. I love him!

  • I was the opposite.  I gained 42 lbs with more of it on the latter end of my pregnancy.  Looking back, I can't believe how big I was.  Anyway, I lost 30 lbs in 3 weeks post pardum.  Honestly, I felt like it just fell off.  Then of course the last 12lbs was more difficult.  I went back to work when my DS was 13 weeks old and at that time, I had only 6 lbs left to go.  Quickly after I came back to work, I lost the last 6lbs and then some.    I didn't really eat much, so it wasn't too bad.  Now, it is brutal fast forward 1+ years , I put on about 6 lbs and I am having trouble loosing it!
