I can't afford the very top of the line, professional versions but I want a good camera. I don't have time to take a class or spend a lot of time messing with one so I need a user friendly one.
We have the Nikon D90 and love it.It has easy auto settings but tons of features including video.
There is huge price range difference in SLRs also so if you had a price range in mind that would be helpful with suggestions.
Married my best friend on 5/14/05

He basically recommends the Nikon D40. We already have a non-digital SLR Canon so I'm just going to buy a new body and use the same lense we have, otherwise I probably would have went with the D40.
Also...if you do decide to go with the D40, our meijer had it on sale for $400. It's not on the website. I think Walmart sells it for $500 so it's a decent amount of savings.
We went to a camera shop yesterday and the prices are scary!!!! I'm 99% sure I'm buying a used one from a different camera store, it's still guaranteed for 90 days if that's something you'd want to consider.
We have just started looking and are trying to stay under $750 or so- the Nikon D40 or Nikon D3000 have been most recommended to me so far for a more entry level DSLR under $1,000. The D40 is no longer being made, the D3000 basically replaces it, but you can still find the D40 being sold.
