Those with REALLY bad m/s

Have you been drinking enough water? This week I have had it SO bad, and water makes me feel worse. Ginger Ale and 7up are the only things that help. I still try to drink as much as I can even though it makes me feel sick, but I know it's not close to enough. Any advice?

Re: Those with REALLY bad m/s

  • yeah it makes me feel worse too. i drink ginger ale and it helps, and i try to eat a lot - small meals often helps.

  • I can't drink anything. Try ice pops or jello, that was working until this week. I started Zofran, but it has not done much.

    GL to you.

  • Zofran is the ONLY thing that has helped me.

  • Water makes me feel worse as well. :( Ginger Ale unfortunately hasn't helped me much. I've been eating frequent small snacks throughout the day, and it actually made me feel A LOT better today. I've tried eating very plain meals. I'll eat oatmeal for breakfast. Maybe some decaf tea between that and lunch, which just warms my stomach and feels better. Lunch I stuck with a turkey and cheese sandwich, and it was GOOOD. I had that again for dinner. In between, I had an apple. Which, I have to say... helped my constipation possibly due to the fiber.

  • At what point did you ladies decide you needed to call you doctor to ask about Zofran/meds? I wasn't nearly as sick with dd, so this is semi new to me.

My first OB appt was at 6 1/2 weeks...she said my urine was dark and my lips were cracked so I looked dehydrated. ( I WAS dehydrated b/c I couldn't hold a thing down) She put me on 1/2 unisom with B6 for ten days to see if I would improve.

Unfortunately this did not help me. ( Although I would try it if I were you, b/c I know it does work for some- plus it's OTC so you can get it easliy. )

So, she put me on the Zofran which is also not so effective.

GL to you...I don't mean to sound discouraging- I am just bummed b/c this is my 3rd pg and the m/s kills me each time :(

I had an appointment at 14 weeks (yesterday). I had lost a few pounds, and the doctor asked how I was feeling. I told him the truth: I've been vomiting every day, multiple times a day, for 5 weeks.

I didn't ask him for anything, but he wrote me a prescription and told me to at least try it. I'm glad I did!

When I had to go to L&D for fluids.  If you get dehydrated getting fluids will help so much.  They also may give you zofran in your IV...omg it's great!

  • Thank you ladies. My first appointment isn't for 3 more weeks but man I hope this eases up. Trying to entertain my toddler while being this sick is crazy.
  • I have an aversion to water as well.  I was drinking sprite and ginger ale like it was my job but noticed that even though short term I felt better all the sugar made me even more sick.  You may want to try sparkling water like Perrier or even vitamin water or gatorade.

     Good luck!

  • OtterPops (west coast)/ Freezee Pops (east Coast)... They help ya get something wet in ya, and the pink ones and blue ones don't make me feel sick (stay away from the red ones... they taste like koolaid and tend to bring on the Puke-os). Plus, since they are really cold, they tend to help a bit.

water makes me feel worse too. try sipping on Room temp water. that helps me, and i add a slice of lemon in there. Lemon helps with neausea. If you want to splurge, Preggo-Pops work pretty good, but they are kinda expensive...

Freezing Gingerale in small ice cube trays (koolaid makes small ones), and then sucking on them helps a bit too...

If you like the aste of ginger, they make hard candy, but lemon drops work really nice too. or the apple jolly ranchers.

Peppermint candy is nice too. my dad mentioned this one too me. just make sure its not something that gets mushy or anything or chalky...

hope these helped! im sick alot too, and my sister was really way worse than me during her pregnancy.. she let me in on alot of these.

  • Wow thank you for all of the ideas. These are great! And good point on the sugar in the sodas.... I will get some Peligrino tomorrow. :-)
