Success after IF

Is 10 weeks old too young to have in a pool?

We're going to visit my dad in 3 weeks in FL and he has a pool. Jake will be 10 weeks by then, is he ok to go in? I'm going to ask the pedi next week when we see her, but I thought I'd ask here too. Thanks :)

  • i've heard to wait until 6 months old!!! they don't know how to regulate body temp until then!!!

  • We had bright in the pool when he was 4 months (just under.)
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! • We did it at just under 2 months. But only for a couple of minutes. They really didn't seem so interested in the pool and it was a kiddie pool though, so no chlorine.
  • We asked and our pedi said no.  She didn't give us a real timeline just said not until next summer.  I didn't push her on it, or point out that it was our own pool and not a public pool with extra chlorinated water.  If your pedi says no I'd ask what his/her concerns are and see if you can deal with them - if you really want him to go in the pool that is.

  • As long as your LO has had at least 1 polio shot you're good to go. We took ours to the pool for classes at 3m.
  • As long as the water is warm and not too cholorinated, it sounds like fun.  I used to teach swimming (in a pretty chilly pool), and my littlest students were about 5ish months.  If it had been warmer, I think we would have had even littler ones.

One word of advice.  Two, actually.  Plastic pants.  Swim diapers aren't very good at catching particulates... ahem... and that would be embarassing.

    Have fun!
