He just refused to take the nipple again. I don't think you can call it a nursing strike, because he feeds well overnight and first thing in the morning. I don't understand it. I'm pretty sure I'm having supply issues, though, and some believe babies can just sense when there's no milk in the breast. Maybe that's why he's screaming? I don't know. I'm pumping like crazy to try to increase my supply. I don't know what would have made it tank.
I'm warming up some pumped milk for him to eat now, but I don't have enough for a full feeding. In the meantime I'm pumping while he's staring up at me from his playmat. I guess I'm going to have to buy some formula.
I'm just feeling terribly frustrated and sad right now. It's always something, you know?
Re: So frustrated (BF related)
I never heard that about formula. I just assumed it was good until the due date on the package even once opened.
I'm sorry you are going through this. He might be going through a growth spurt but he might be hungry at the breast. I have low supply and have this whole time - i have to supplement nearly daily, so I understand how you feel.
I'm so sorry you are having such a tough time. I make enough milk when DD nurses but not enough when I pump at work..so I give some formula during the week and that is ok too....
Something is just strange about the fact the he has a problem nursing in the afternoon but is ok at other times..not sure if that is a supply issue exactly..but then again I am not bfding expert either..
Could it be gas? That usually made DD cry and scream and squirm at the breast..I kept thinking it was me but turned out she needed to burp or pass gas...
Good luck and keep up the great job!!
DD would scream before even latching on..she may have had gas from the prior nursing sesion since it was only 2hrs since..so I think it could be..
Sometimes the position I had her in was uncomfortable for her too...a few times I lay her down and got on all fours with breast on top of her so she could latch on like a bottle..crazy right? but it worked...Oh the things I did in those first few months..sigh
Yes it is true that you have to use it up within a month after opening...it may make more sense for you to buy some of the liquid concentrated cans. They are expensive but you don't want to throw away half a can of powdered formula if it doesn't get used by 30 days.
My supply tanked when I got my surprise BFP and when I started BCP. Other than that, I have no idea what it could be.
