When was our last check-in?

I think it has been a while.  What are your LOs up to?  How is your PG going?

Re: When was our last check-in?

  • DS is 16.5 months old and is doing well.  While he still only has 6 teeth, he's finally starting to eat a wider variety of foods, so we're not as worried about his calorie intake as we used to be.  He seems to be sticking in the 10th percentile too, so I'm much less stressed when he doesn't eat.

He's learning new words almost daily, which is great to see.  I love this age!  He's so curious and expressive, and hasn't really hit the super tantrum stage yet.  While he has his super cranky, tantrumy days, he's still overall a genial little boy.

  • DS is now 13.5 months old and has just started to take walking steps (more than 2) on his own.  He is often so proud of himself when he does it because he has the biggest smile on his face.  He still isn't drinking much milk and being kind of picky with his fruits and veggies.  Hopefully he'll expand his desires soon and I can stop the purrees.

Like Agrippa's DC our DS definitely has his moments where he can be cranky, fussy and super clingy.  I'm hoping to help him build some independence because otherwise when I start to get too big to carry him I have a feeling we'll have some all out tantrums.

As far as my pg, I'm getting a little anxious waiting for my first u/s on Tuesday.  We're going in to check and make sure there is a h/b.  Fingers crossed!

  • we haven't had one of these in forever- great post!

DS is drooling everywhere. We see two little white spots on his bottom gums, although the teeth haven't broken through yet. He's "talking" more and more, which is so exciting and yet makes me sad he's growing up so fast. Most of the time, he's STTN. He's doing better with tummy time, but is still very wobbly and doesn't hold his head up for more than a few seconds at a time. He also loves to sit up (somewhat supported) and try to balance himself. So funny- I WANT MORE!Big Smile

I missed your announcement, NowDNA! Congrats!

We are surviving our first month and I can't believe how fast it is flying by. His fussiness has gotten a lot better than when I posted a week or so ago, I think partially because we re-introduced the pacifier in the last few days. He's sleeping enough to keep me sane (generally from about 9 pm to 7 am with two feedings in between) and I'm seriously knocking on wood and crossing my fingers that that continues and maybe even improves.

I'm in love with DS, but generally not digging this newborn phase, to be completely honest. The inconsistency drives me batty, especially with feedings and nap times. But he is definitely getting more interesting and fun as the days go on. He loves to grab things already, is getting remarkably good at lifting his head and is even rolling over (tummy to back) during tummy time.  I can't wait for a real smile!

    The DC Nest. Winers welcome.

  • I got my first "momma" sounds yesterday, so life is good!

DS is crawling all over the place and loves climbing stairs.  We just got back from a week at the beach.  It was fun to see his reaction to the waves and see him crawling all over the place and eating sand.  I can't believe he's almost one!

  • Troy is 2 years & 4 months today! So weird not to be counting in just months anymore (it is 28 months). He is talking up a storm, repeating all kinds of things (luckily we don't really swear anymore). He recently started counting to 12 out of the blue and can say some long words like "hippopotamus". He's running, jumping, climbing (too much!) and playing every ball sport with Daddy's good abilities (luckily, not mine). He definitely has some toddler tantrums and we are trying to figure out the discipline thing.

We are still seeing a feeding therapist, but she is cutting back on the # of visits because he is doing well. In May, he could hardly eat anything and now he is eating slivers of pizza, half ham sandwiches and small bowls of cereal, among other things. We saw the GI on Wed and he doesn't know why he is still throwing up, still hanging it on the reflux/GERD diagnosis, but doesn't think any drastic measures are needed (ie. feeding tube or surgery). His height and weight are on the chart!! 25 pounds, which to us is huge! (I know some of your 6 months olds are almost there, but I try not to think about that).

Dealing with the issues hasn't been easy. It is great that, despite them, he is an active, super energetic toddler but also exhausting as well.

  • DNA - nice job sneaking that ticker in!! (unless I missed the announcement, too). Congratulations and good luck at the u/s.

He's already rolling over? My DS is over 4 months and he just started doing that. You must have given birth to Superbaby!

  • DD will be 18 months old next week. I can't believe I will have a 1 and a 1/2 year old.  She is certainly getting a mind of her own.  We're starting to see a few more tantrums when she doesn't get something she wants.  She starting to say more words or semblances of words.  DH and I got bikes so we've been taking DD on daily bike rides, which she loves.

She is obsessed right now with this video we have about animals on a farm.  She make all the animal sounds when she sees them on the screen.  She'll go over to the drawer where we keep her videos and take it out.  She knows the open/close button on the DVD player and she'll push it, put the DVD in and push play.  Who knew they could do that at this age????

  • Jeneralla, so glad to hear about Troy's progress!

38 weeks and counting. I am planning on working until I deliver or October 12, whichever comes first. I am "nesting" right now, in overdrive to get things spruced up at work and at home.

I'm reading "Secrets of the Baby Whisperer" on Artslvr's recommendation. I've already read "Happiest Baby" and "Healthy Sleep Habits." I don't know about you, but "Healthy Sleep Habits" read like stereo instructions for me - the 5 S's seemed much more accessible.

yeah, he's only done it a few times and it takes awhile, but he's a pretty strong little guy.

  • DD's been sick with a stomach bug. It started last weekend & I stayed home with her Monday & Tuesday. But still, she wasn't quite 100% most of the week after that.

I've been moving back the bedtime to 8:30. DH has been on my back about my poor time management skills, so I'm making an effort to start getting DD to bed earlier. I've always had a routine with her, which I think certainly helped. DD's been quite a trooper though. Literally when I walk into her room holding her each night, she will lean out to her crib, I lay her down & she falls asleep on her own.

I guess that's about it for me right now.

  • Things are going pretty well with Warner--he's going to be 6 months old next week, can you believe it??

He rolls constantly and uses this new trick to go wherever he wants. I'm almost worried that he'll never learn to crawl since he loves to roll so much. I've been trying to work with him to get him to sit up on his own. He's strong enough to brace himself on his hands in a sitting position, but after about 5-10 seconds he just falls to one side--maybe it's a balance issue? I'm trying not to worry about it too much, I'm sure it will happen in time.

His transition to daycare was a very smooth one, but we are still dealing with his first cold. He got better during the week, but by Friday, it was bad again. So when he was home with me yesterday, he was still fussy and all congested. I took him to the doctor to be on the safe side and she said that his ears looked fine and his lungs were clear, so just keep giving him benedryl and motrin until his congestion clears up.

  • Nicholas had his 18mo check-up this week. He's lost a few pounds and is now in the 66th percentile. His height is still way off the charts at 36.5 inches but it's slowed down. He was growing an inch a month still but over the last 3 months he only grew about 3/4 of a inch.

We're having issues getting him to sleep at night. He's finally STTN every night (knock on wood) but now he doesn't want to go to bed and we often struggle until after 10pm. I guess I just have to trade one for the other :sigh:

We're dealing with temper and tantrums but I'm reading Happiest Toddler on the Block and trying to employ some of the methods so hopefully we'll be successful with that soon.

And we're still dealing with eczema which I'm sure is only going to get worse thru the winter. At least the mosquito bites have slowed down though.

  • Great post! We are doing really well. DD is such a joy. She is sitting really well on her own, making her have a ton of fun with toys. She just got her "big girl" carseats and really likes riding in them. She is babbling a lot, giving "kisses" and responds with such joy when she sees me that it just melts my heart. She has been sleeping a little better, too!

I am doing well with my partial weaning and am down to nursing 3-4 times a day and the rest using my freezer stash with one formula feed a day. I'm pleased with it as I am much more comfortable and can now say good-bye to my pump!

  • DH and I went on our 1st post-baby, without-baby vacation. DD did pretty well while we were gone (with grandparents) but definitely missed us. We missed her a lot but had a great time. She was very clingy when I came back and also developed a cold (got it from MIL). I took a few days off after our vacation to spend with her and to give my parents a break.

She's been refusing all jarred/purreed food which is very frustrating, I guess it's a stage. I won't be buying it anymore (but have so much at home!), I guess she just wants to eat with her fingers now.

I can't believe she'll be 1 in just a few weeks!! She's talking up a storm, loves making av-av sounds (dog barking) and is running everywhere (although she wants to hold onto my finger when doing it, although she is definitely capable of doing it on her own).

  • DD is almost 13 months old and is walking and talking up a storm (her favorite is nigh nigh when she is ready for a nap or bed).  She has been walking for over a month now, and is tough to keep up with.  She is still being pretty picky with food, but who wouldn't want a quesadilla (her current and only favorite) every night for dinner.  She eats a lot of dairy! We are trying to figure out how to eliminate the nighttime bottle and get her better on the sippy cup during the day.  I am still nursing 2x per day and we both enjoy it.  Glad everyone is doing so well.
