I got a breathable bumper for the first few months and will eventually change it to the bumper that came with the bed set.
They recommend not doing this because the baby can use them to get out of the crib and that is dangerous.
We (technically) have 2 sets of bumpers because our bedding set came with one but that is staying in the package and not being used. There is a breathable bumper on our crib.
What would be the purpose of two? I could see having several crib sheets but I don't get the need for multiple bumpers.
I think she is thinking in the case of explosive poop or throwup? I have no idea. But she was pretty insistent on it and I just told her I didn't think it was necessary. If there was a reason why they got dirty, I have a washing machine....
I have some other MIL issues I just might post about. LOCO.

I actually did get a breathable one for later on. My cousin has the same bed set as me and said that they were too poofy and once her son got bigger, she was worried he didn't have enough space. But this is NOT what my MIL was suggesting. She literally thought we needed 2 crib sets. It was almost an argument!
IF the purpose is in case it gets dirty... then well... we've NEVER had to clean DD's bumper. It's been in use for 9+ months now. I don't think it's necessary.
BUmpers aren't even needed... and they dont' necessarily get dirty either when the baby is just and wee one. Once the child can pull huimself up, the bumper shoudl be removed anyway.
I found my DD's crib set to be a complete waste of money. The comforter was never used and the bunper was quickly removed. Sad that most people use the comforter as the "theme" for the nursery. Invest in a few nice sheet sets since they will get changed and will also be used as the child ages.

We have one standard padded bumper in the crib. If it get dirty the crib will just go without a bumper until I'm done washing it. I don't think it is that big of a deal, why waste the money and storage space.
