I can't believe my baby is turning 1 in a month! We're not planning a big party, just family and friends at our local lake picnic/playground if weather holds up. She's my first so I've never experienced "the 1st birthday party" and I have a few questions What kind of invitations should I send out? Any suggestions on where to get them? We don't really have a theme but I'm thinking of involving pumpkins since her birthday is in October and we call her pumpkin. And any suggestions on gifts? We don't want to get anything too big/expensive/crazy... right now her favorite game is to make a mess out of whatever she can get her hands on
Oh, and she's walking! She's pretty unsteady but it's the cutest thing, esp. since she still doesn't have much hair and she still has NO teeth! Hopefully we'll have at least one tooth before she turns 1
Re: 1st birthday ideas?
My birthday is Sept 7 and my first birthday cake was a pumpkin...
I still love to look at the pictures...
I like vistaprint for cheap invites. I think the pumpkin idea is really cute - easy decorating this time of year. If you won't be having it at a house with a bathtub, bring lots of wipes and a big bib if she is going to get a piece of cake or a cupcake - Maggie loved making messes too and she needed a quick bath after her cake.
Here she is all messy:
I bought Maggie a little fisher price zoo set. She really didn't play with it until she was almost 2 though. We don;t buy her much since she gets so much from others at her birthday and Christmas. The toys she did really like in the first year were the stacking cups, her ride on toys (she got 3 at her birthday), and her shopping cart. She loved things she could hold on to and walk (she was just starting to walk at her first bday).
I did a "little" pumpkin baby shower for my sister in '07...I think it's a great idea!
Wilton has mini-pumpkin cake pans (I did these for favors) and Martha Stewart has a large pumpkin mold (I did this for the shower).
I had the invitations printed by polka dot design. I thought they were cute!
I love the harvest idea! October is a great month for pumpkins and apples. Not sure what your plan for food is, but hot apple cider and donuts are SO autumn-y to me. A pumpkin cake would be super cute. Wilton used to make a large pumpkin cake pan (discontinued but you could probably find it on ebay or craigslist). Candy apples would be a fun treat too!
I think Sofka had mentioned a few weeks ago that Harris Teeter will do free smash cakes for first birthdays, you just have to ask.
