36 weeks 4 days w/ boys when will they come???

My doc has scheduled a c-section for the 29th which will be 38 weeks 2 days. He did measurements on monday 14th and said baby a weighs 6lbs 8ozs and b weighs 5lbs 14ozs. He told me he could probably take them that day and they would be fine but wants to wait two more weeks. I know I'm getting anxious but the pressure is so strong I want them to come now. Anyone else deliver boys at this time? Any complications. My doc says boys are know to be weak thats why they need to stay in.

  • I delivered my boys at 38 w 2 days and was induced at that point.  I wanted to go as long as my doc would let me to give them time to mature.  The weight measurements can be really off.  I can't remember what mine were exactly, but I know they told me both boys weighed the same and they came out 1.5 lbs different!  Hang in there and take one day at a time.  You can do it!

  • Just wondering did you end up w/ a c-section or did you deliver vaginal? My boys just wont get into position a is breech and b is transverse. I really want to deliver natural! :)
  • I was induced at 37w6d. I can totally understand getting restless in those last weeks--you get SO uncomfortable--but the extra time does help! I hope your babies still shift into position! My Baby A was vertex from about 23w on; Baby B kept flipping back and forth and at delivery was breech. (So I pushed out Baby A and then had a breech extraction for Baby B, which is what I hoped for rather than a C-section.)

  • I delivered at 36w4d... Sam was fine (6lbs, 11oz) but Jake (6lbs, 3oz) was in the NICU for 24 days because he had problems maintaining his blood sugar and then developed NEC.

I wish I could have kept them in longer.

  • 36w is NOT term and should not deliver babies by choice that early unless there is a medical raeson to.  My first son was induced at 36w because of high bp and kidney stones... he did great (because i had the steriod shots) but some babies born that early need NICU time.

If you can make it to 38w, feel very blessed. There are tons of MoMs on here and IRL who would have done anything to make it that far...

I had my boys at 38w1d, my scheduled c/s date, and I feel so fortunate. They needed no NICU time and came right home with us. that is what you want.

  • Mine came via scheduled c/s at 38w2d.  No complications.  Their weights are in my siggy.

You want to keep any baby (boy or girl) in as long as possible.  I was so ready to have mine at 35 weeks, but seeing how healthy they were by hanging on until 38w2d made the extra stuff I had to deal with so worth it.  You want those LOs cooking as long as possible.

  • I know you are uncomfortable and think you can't last another minute but I agree with pp that you need to keep them in there as long as those babies will let you.

I delivered at 36 & 2 but not b/c I went into labor - Baby A was having some trouble in there.  Our NICU stay was short and we were very lucky that their issues were not as severe as what other have dealt with but that did not make it any less stressful for us

After your babies are here you will look back at this time and it will be a blip and you will probably be on here giving the same advice to others that you are receiving now.  You are doing a great job, hang in there!

  • i feel the same way! intellectually i want them to stay in until 38wks. my body, however, is ready for this to be over. like everyone said im not doing anything unless one of them didnt look like they were doing well or if i go into labor. but my body aches, im tired, well, you know. onwards we tredge.
  • I delivered my boys vaginally.  Baby A was head down from 20 weeks on and Baby B made a late turn at about 35 weeks.  I felt very lucky to get to deliver them at term and vaginally.  It will be here before you know it!

  • Mine were born at 36 weeks, 3 days. I went into labor on my own. I would have given my right arm to keep them in for at least a week longer, even though I was uncomfortable. Wyatt had to spend 12 days in the NICU because he had respiratory distress syndrome (his lungs were immature and he was having trouble breathing). My boys were big, 6 pounds 6 ounces and 6 pounds, 10 ounces and they were practicing their breathing really well in utero. The doctor really thought they would be fine although he and I were both hoping I would make it to my scheduled c section at 38 weeks. My boys were breech and transverse and they did not ever turn, so I did have a c section. Congrats on making it this far and hopefully you will make it to your scheduled date!

  • As a NICU mom let me just say you are sooooo lucky.  That is the thing, you may not have problems but why take the risk????  Hang loose and count your blessings.  Heaven knows I would give anything to be in your shoes.

  • I delivered at 36w4ds due to pre-e... at the u/s that morning they told me my boys were both over 7lbs... they were 5lbs8oz and 5lbs3oz... if there is no medical need... wait to deliver!  If it hadn't been for my pre-e I would have waited until my scheduled c/s which was a week and a half later.
