When did you feel the baby move and KNOW it was the baby (not just gas, digestion, etc)?[Poll]

Re: When did you feel the baby move? (poll)

  • Both were between 17 and 20 weeks.  I felt DD earlier than DD#2 though which surprised me.

  • I felt flutters really early on... like 15 weeks or something.  But I didn't feel kicks until I was 18-20 weeks.
  • I'm sure I'm just paranoid, but I haven't felt anything I can say "That's the baby."  I'm 19 weeks and 2 days.  At my appt on Monday the midwife asked if I'd felt anything and I said no.  I also asked "When should I be concerned about NOT feeling the baby?"  She said usually by 20 weeks most women feel something.  From my ultrasound everything looked okay, the baby was active then and has always been active when we've done the dopplar (ie: we've had to chase her around to time the heartbeat), my placenta was in the right place and my uterus is growing fine.  So there should be no reason I shouldn't be able to feel the baby move soon.

So, if by next week, I still don't feel anything, do I call and ask about it?  Or do I wait it out and see if something happens until my next appt at around 23 weeks?

  • I didn't feel anything until about 22 weeks.  I was going crazy!!  Then just one day I felt a kick. It was wonderful.  If I were you , I would wait until the next appointment.
  • for me, 15 weeks almost to the day. i was driving in my car. i knew it was "baby." but still, it seemed early, so i didn't tell DH for a few more days, until there was no doubt.

    i think everyone's just different.

  • I felt "something" at like 15 weeks, and then at around 18 or 19, I felt serious movement, but it wasn't constant or every day.

  • 16 weeks, 4 days at a Dave Matthews concert :)
  • I'd say I started feeling the baby around 20 weeks but didn't really know what it was until a week or two later. It took longer for me to feel kicks and DH didn't feel any kicks from the outside until about 24 weeks or so. I wouldn't worry just yet, everyone is different!
  • I felt flutters that I could pinpoint as kicks maybe at 18 or 19 weeks, and DH got to feel them on his birthday, at 20 weeks. It was kind of flukey, he couldn't feel them for a while after that even though I'd MAKE him put his hand on my belly when she was moving. I think it was her special birthday gift to him.

    Now she's a mover and a shaker.

  • I felt her for the first time around 18 weeks, but not consistently until probably 23-24 weeks.

  • I can feel movement, but it's not strong or frequent. DH can feel it, too - but not everyday yet. This started around 19 weeks. .

  • 16 weeks on the dot however it was more like 22-24 weeks before it was a definite kick vs something that felt like a fish swimming in my belly lol

  • When we went for our big US at 18wks my MIL said "You really can't feel that???" Because Ben was a wildman in there.  I really couldn't.  After that appt. I started to try to really pay attention when I was sitting still, and I still didn't really feel anything until almost 20weeks.  Even then, it was just the most subtle of tapping from the inside.
