3rd Trimester

grrr...why do I still have to ?

Why in the world do I still need a full bladder to have an ultrasound done?? I understand that a full bladder makes your ute more visible, but at this stage how much more visible do you need it ?? Telling a woman who pee's every 15 mins to hold it for 2 hours and drink 1 L of water is insane !!

Ok rant over.... i'll do what I have to do...as long as LO is safe and healthy...and on the bright side I get to see him again !

  • They do the same thing to me too and I swear I'm near jaundice by the time they mash around on my stomach.

  • I'd be grrrr-ing too. ?I'm glad I don't have to do this! I wouldn't make it!?
  • Hm...they never tell me to have a full bladder. In fact, they have me use the restroom beforehand so that baby has as much room as possible when they do the ultrasound.

  • I get frustrated while I wait between urine sample and end of appointment... twice I've had to use the bathroom before we left and once, I left the patient room to go before the MW made it in.

  • I don't understand that, either. They've never told me to have a full bladder, even when I had an U/S at 8 weeks.

This! Who told you to have a full bladder? If it was your doctor, call the sonographer and ask if you need to have a full bladder at this stage. I highly doubt that you would.

Really? lucky !! Ive had 2 US so far and at 13 wks i had to have a full bladder the whole time and at 21 weeks they had me empty it 1/2 way through the us

  • I think this is strange, too. I haven't had to have a full bladder for an ultrasound since my first one at 7 weeks.

No it was the receptionist at my Dr's...maybe ill call the hospital where im going and double check. doesnt seem right to me either !

  • That is so strange. Are they using older equipment? I haven't had to have a full bladder at any of my ultrasounds.
  • My ultrasound tech said that our hospital likes a full bladder because if the baby isn't in a great position emptying the bladder can prompt the baby to move into another position which might be better. I couldn't keep all the water down for my anatomical US and it didn't cause any problems. I bet they can't tell the difference between a glass and a liter at this point.. and if I have to choose between peeing my pants and going to the restroom.. well that's not a hard decision!
