3rd Trimester

Well, damn. Got the weight talk.

At least, sort of...

At my appointment this morning, the doctor looked at my chart and said, "BP looks good, weight gain 24 pounds, that looks good.."  and I pointed out that wasn't right... so then she said, "Oh, 34 pounds. That's a little different!"

She asked me how I was feeling about it, and I said that I don't think my weight gain has come too much from eating junk  but I admit I haven't exercised as much as I should. She said that while some women do just gain more weight than others, we want to be careful so the baby doesn't get too big.

She felt around a little bit and said the baby seems to be on the bigger end of the normal range, so it's okay so far, but now is a good time to kick up the exercise.

I'm not totally surprised, and I have been riding the junk food train for the past few weeks (rare for me) so I did feel a little guilty anyway. Both DH and I were small babies, so I'm still hoping this little man isn't a monster!!

  • I got the same talk so you're not alone.  Although my doctor said that taking my dog for a 20 min walk everyday is enough exercise.  Apparently I must be eating too much crap.

  • Ugh, the dreaded talk! I got it early on, but haven't since. I gained 50 lbs with DD, though, and was told she was going to be well pver 8 lbs. (not by u/s but by feeling my stomach) Even at 10 days overdue, she was only 7 lb 12 oz--NOT the huge baby they predicted. So, try not to worry about that. :) Getting the weight off was hard, though. That's one reason I've tried not to gain as much this time around. Exercise should definitely help, but don't feel too guilty about a little splurge here and there--it's one of the joys of pregnancy, after all. ;-)

  • i got a version of the weight talk at 30 weeks - just telling me to watch my weight gain from here on out. it pissed me off because i am exercising and not eating TERRIBLY, and the doctor didn't ask about my habits and gave me no advice. the only thing doctor said "well big mommy equals big baby that we have to get out of you". which isn't always true.
  • I used to get the weight talk all the time. Now I get the blood pressure talk. The weight talk is MUCH better.
  • Yeah, I kinda got this too.  Too much gain in 2 weeks (I honestly refused to look at the scale, so I'm not sure how much it was).  I was feeling super swollen yesterday at my appt though, so my dr attributed it to water weight.
  • I'm late to this post, but don't feel bad.  I have gained 30.5 lbs at 32 weeks and I exercise all the time and have been eating really healthy, avoiding carbs and sugar - doing everything they've told me, except for the occasional indulgence in chocolate.  I have resigned myself to the fact that I will go over the 35 lb marker of recommended weight gain.  My OB didn't even say anything yesterday and I (for once) didn't ask.  I think you're still within a reasonable range and I've read you may actually drop a few lbs around weeks 37-40.

  • I think some people's dr.'s are turds. I've gained 27 pounds and my doc says that is absolutely perfect. Seriously, there is not that much of a difference between 34 and 27 pounds. In other parts of the (very civilized) world, they don't even weigh pregnant people. Just sayin.
