Success after IF

When to worry about dehydration?

One of our guys had a bottle at 3:30 and then some cereal and pears at about 6.  At his 7:30 bottle he threw up a TON.  He hadn't had any of his 7:30 bottle when he let loose so I can only assume it was mostly cereal/pears and some of his 3:30 bottle.  Right after another bath (through which he smiled the whole time!), he went to sleep.  I've tried twice now to give him a little pedialyte and he had no interest.  Should I try formula? Just leave him until he wakes on his own?  He doesn't seem to have a fever and he had several wet diapers early in the day.  Babies are complicated!

Re: When to worry about dehydration?

  • Dd threw up 2X in 20 minutes about a month ago.  She fell asleep right after (it was around 9:00 pm).  I called the pedi and she told me to let her sleep for 2 -3 hours and then nurse her to see if she could keep that feeding down.  It worked and she kept it down.  I would stick with formula unless you got the ok from your dr. to try pedilyte.

  • Tried the formula, he's not interested whatsoever.  And of course I just pumped so I can't nurse him, but I don't think he would wake up enough anyway.  He's our sleeper. I'll try again in a bit. Thank you!

  • He should be fine. If he has less than 3 wet diapers in a 24 hour period THEN worry and call the Dr. I would offer him formula or breast milk when he wakes up. Good luck and I hope he feels better in the am.
