DH sleeps on the couch.....

so DH has been sleeping on the couch and the baby sleeps in the bed with me, but, the problem is, is that I am preggo again, and pretty soon, like within the next couple of weeks, I need to break LO from sleeping with me and move her into her bed. I have a 7 year old, so my excuse has been that I don't want LO to wake my 7 year old while she screams because she wants to be in bed with me. I created a monster!!!! AAAHHHH!

Re: DH sleeps on the couch.....

  • I feel ya!!  My DH either sleeps on the couch or on the foot of the bed with the dog.  I feel bad for him but I'm scared that LO will fall off the bed.

  • Why can DH not sleep in bed with you?

I would not stress that much about moving the baby. I had the same freakout when I got pregnant (yours seem like they'll be spaced about like my first 2--around 11 months apart). Anyway, I freaked out. But someone on here back then (who happened to be a big sleep training advocate) told me to quit freaking out and why change it if it works for us? She was right. It all worked out.

Are you opposed to sleeping with both? The "older" one will still be so young, she will still need you in the night.

  • well your right iguess they could both sleep, the babies that is, but we would need a bigger bed for dh to sleep, because i have to hold LO to sleep if he is in bed with us, and it maked me sweat and i dont sleep well...

  • I wouldn't rush into anything right yet.  See how things go and go with the flow.  It just might work better then you think.

And you'd be surprised how well dads and babes co-sleep.  My dh was nervous at first but after 2 kids he can't imagine it anyway else.

  • Do you have a crib?  Can you add it to the bed in a sidecar?  I wrote about it in my blog, check it out...

ETA: Try and bring DH back to bed with you...that kind of sucks for him.  It can be done, really.  Dads need some cuddles too!

LOVE the crib idea!!! It looks great.

  • Sidecarring adds a ton of space. When my middle child was born, we did this. She didn't sleep in it, but it was nice to have that space so we knew she wouldn't fall out!
  • My DH often sleeps in another room too because he is afraid to squish the baby. We talked about putting DS in his crib (which is in our room), but we are both hesitant. I thought I was more hesitant than him, but I guess not. I think he actually prefers sleeping in the other room because he gets more sleep that way.

I put the crib in our room, but its not connected to the bed. DS doesn't sleep in it, but maybe he will... someday ;)

I personally wouldn't sleep with 2 babies in the bed. It would be too stressful to me. I remember how stressed out I was when DS was a newborn and how I was SO worried about rolling on him. I wouldn't want to worry about both of them. But you need to do what is best for your family. GL!

Ok, so how can you get a bigger bed? Sidecar a crib or put your mattress on the floor and another one next to it? Put your bed frame away, buy a king mattress now and save for the frame later on?

Indifferent   On the foot of the bed with the dog? Seriously?

I'm a little confused though... if you're afraid your LO will fall off the bed, wouldn't it make sense to have your DH sleeping on his other side?

  • I don't understand being hesitant to put a 8 month old baby in a crib IN YOUR ROOM?!

    Weird.

Also, making your DH sleep at the foot of the bed with the dog is nuts.

Your husband is of sane mind with this fear. I just found out of an incident in my region this week where a 2 month old baby died because the father was sound asleep and accidentally suffocated the baby while co-sleeping.

  • Why do you let your dog sleep with you but not your husband?

Don't get me wrong, sometimes my H sleeps on the couch... but because he sleeps better there, not because I make him. Emmy sleeps between me and the wall in a sleep positioner thing, and my H sleeps on my other side.

Mothers can roll over on babies too you know.

Really? I would have never guessed.

My point was that I agree with her husband's fears, and perhaps she should also consider acknowledging them herself.

Then again, this all comes from a post where a man is sleeping on the couch while children, dogs, and perhaps the family mice are sleeping on his bed. Clearly, that is the reasonable way to handle household sleeping arrangements.

What do you want me to acknowledge? That my DH is concerned about rolling on the baby or that you think I am going to roll on him? If you are going to insinuate that I'm clueless about somehing, please be clear.
