Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Do you feed raisins to your child?

I am packing Luke's lunch for tomorrow and we are low on fruit. My sister gives my nieces raisins. They are 14 months old and 2. Luke is just over 12 months. I just googled and it says not to give them until 4 years old!!!! However, the comments written below say that many have given them around a year just fine. He will be at daycare, where he is supervised during meal/snack time, but wanted to see what others say. Yay or nay?

  • Yes; they are one of her favorite snacks. You can cut them in half if that makes you feel more comfortable. That is what we did at first. I still cut them in half if they are larger raisins.

  • Yeah, my DD eats raisins.  She loves them!  One of her favorite snacks.

Like pp said, you can cut them in half if it makes you feel more comfortable.  Or, just wait!  There's plenty of other things your DS can eat in the meantime.  My DD just started having them because I eat them.

  • I give Lyla cut-up pieces of prunes (similar consistency), and she loves them... like Kelbrian suggested, maybe just cut them in half the first time to be safe?
  • Hates them.  What else is new?
  • Our Dr said no way until at least 2 or later.  She said even cut up they're of a consistency that can cause choking easily and at 1 our babies are still really learning how to eat and chew.
  • Just a warning - we give prunes to Jack almost daily, so I have no problem with raisins; we just hadn't ever bought any. But Grandma had some and gave them to him - he loved them, but threw up that night and had diarrhea the next day. Not sure if it was the raisins, but they were still "whole" when they came back up:( So... I might give them to him at home the first time to see how he does!
  • I do feed my DS raisins, as well as dried blueberries and cranberries.

  • DD eats them. They're usually whole in her diaper though. Sorry, gross, I know.

     This. You've been warned.

  • We tried two times and both times DS broke out in a rash around his neck. I assumed it was a food sensitivity or allergy so we're not trying those again for a while.
