Weight loss after birth?

ok..... so I am 37 weeks pregnant... and I see all these post baby pics that everyone shows where they are 2 weeks pp and they are skinny again!? How is this!? I mean it gives me hope but I just dont see myself being that lucky. Are these women just myths!? hahah I am trying to get a realistic idea of what to except. So my questions to you ladies?

?1. how much weight did you gain during pregnancy?

2. How much weight have you lost and in what time frame??

  • Every woman is different. You either will or you won't lose weight quickly, but it's not something you can force.

    I gained close to 70 pounds. It ended up being mostly water weight.

    I'm 2 1/2m pp and am down to my pre-pregnancy weight. I realize this is rare and I'm not trying to be an AW about it.

  • I gained 45lbs with DD lost all of it by the 3rd month.  But I still need to do crunches only because i need to tighten the belly now...and i sooooo  dont feel like doing that!

  • I gained 30 pounds and I have lost 20. That came off in about 4 weeks - I haven't lost anything in the last three weeks :-(. I was also heavier than I wanted to be when I got pg, so I have signed up for Weight Watchers.

    But you would be amazed what BF-ing, having no sleep and not having time to eat will do for you! :-)

  • I gained 30 lbs. after 2 mons pp i had lost 23.. and still have only lost 23 lbs. last 7 lbs seem to be stickin around

  • I gained 30 pounds and I am actually down 40 pounds.  Yes I lost lots and lots of weight but don't get me wrong my stomach has a lot of skin and its not that Im flat.

  • I had a lot of water weight too. I gained 55lbs and lost 30lbs within 2 weeks of giving birth. Right now, I'm still about 20lbs over my pre-pregnancy weight.

  • I was an abnormality.  I gained 15 total, after losing 5 in my first tri.  I was back to pre-preg weight within 24 hours of giving birth.  BUT, my body didn't look the same.  BFing really helped with the bloated belly.  I was back in pre-preg jeans by 4 weeks. 
  • 1. I gained about 50 pounds

    2. I lost 30 within the first few weeks (mostly water weight) and then stalled with 20lbs. to go - I'm still waiting to lose those 20, but I haven't been doing anything to help lose them.

    Even losing the 30 pounds, my body is shaped so differently now. My hips and ribcage are both wider, there are maternity pants I could wear into the last weeks of pregnancy that I can't wear now because of my hips. I also went up a band size on my bra after giving birth (from a 36 to a 38).

  • 39 pounds total - (15 of that the last 3 weeks!) Delivered at 38 weeks (not induced)

    It took about 3 months to lose all the baby weight - I am down about 10 pounds from my pre pregnancy weight, but my body is NOT like it used to be!  Nursing helps you lose the weight too... I have never eaten so much in my life! 

     

  • I gained 45. I lost 18 by the time I came home and so far have lost 13 more, most of that by 4 weeks. The last few weeks gave only been about 1lb per week. I just started working out last week (besides walking) so I'm hoping it comes off more quickly now
  • Oh yeah - even though I'm back to my regular weight, my clothes still don't fit and my belly is very flabby.

  • I gained 24lbs during pregnancy, but DD was born at 37 weeks, so I may have ended up with another pound or two if I'd gone to 40.

    I think I was down about 15lbs right after, I was 1lb away from pre-preg weight at my check up (at almost 5 weeks pp). DD will be three months on Saturday and I'm 6lbs less than pre-preg weight right now.

     That said, I used to reeeally struggle with my weight all of my life, and then a few years ago I lost about 80lbs... since then I've been pretty strict with myself as far as eating healthy-ish and exercising. If I hadn't tried to stay on track (and had an OB that chewed me out every time I gained, argh), I have zero doubt in my mind that it would've taken longer. Nothing's the same shape anymore, though... I weigh less, but am actually less comfortable with my body right now.

  • i gained 35lbs, and I've lost 31lbsin 3 weeks.

    I attribute a lot of it to breastfeeding.  I definitely still have a pooch, stretchmarks, and my abdominal muscles are completely squishy (I think that's from my c-section), so I'm not one of those miracle women that has a flat, rock hard tummy within a couple of weeks, but I've lost quite a bit and think I look alright.

  • I gained about 32 lbs. and have about 5 lbs. to lose, pre pg jeans fit but my *ss is FREAKING HUGE!!!!

  • I gained 25 lbs during pg. Lost all of it by my 6 wk pp check up.  Lost 4 more lbs since then.  I am not exercising much, just keeping up with DS and walking.  I am bf'ing and I think that helped a lot.

  • I gained 25 and lost 15 the first week and another 5 a few weeks after that. Even though I am only 5 lbs from my pre-preg weight, like pp said, my body is just so different and things fit differently.

  • I gained 30, I lost 20 in about two weeks (most due to a large baby) and then regained a few. I haven't done shiit for exercise yet though, so I'm sure it will come off a bit better once I actually get off my butt.?

    I don't know where you're seeing all these "skinny" pictures. I think the majority of women on here are probably not where they want to be yet weight-wise.?

  • I gained 40 lbs and lost over 30 in the first two weeks. I lost another 5 within the first month. Still can't get rid of that last 5 though.
  • I was amazed at the amount of weight I gained in my pregnancy. At 35 weeks I weighed myself for the last time and had GAINED 57 lbs. I know I gained more then that in water but I was in the hospital and never bothered to weigh myself after that. So if I go by that weight I weighed 173 and 1 week after birth I was down to 149. Every day since birth my stomach has retracted about an inch. Today is day 11 and it looks flat (alot softer than it did and a little saggy but no longer pregnant looking at all) I am breastfeeding and I think that has helped alot in reducing my tummy ( you can tell by the intense contraction like pains you get after each feed from you uterus contracting back).. hope this helps!     2. How much weight have you lost and in what time frame? lost 30lbs up to now, it's coming off on it's own. Don't think people look super skinny if they take off their clothes though. With clothes I look perfect, without, not so much, still a little flabby in my lower stomach and stretchmarks are still there.

  • I gained a total of 45 lbs and within the first 2 weeks was down 20 lbs. I have lost an additional 11 lbs since then by doing my elliptical for 20 to 25 min 4 to 5 times a week. I didn't want to get crazy with the exercise until I went for my 6 week checkup. If all looks good next week and the Dr gives the ok, I will be doing more of the elliptical and am thinking of getting the Shred DVD. My ultimate hope is to loose an additional 5 to 7 lbs from where I was pre pregnancy. So all in all I have about 20 lbs more to loose.

  • Well, this thread is just bumming me out.

    I gained 33 total, have lost 23 and can't seem to lose the final 10 pounds. I work out a lot (I am running a 1/2 marathon this weekend!) and try to eat healthy. Unfortunately, when I cut calories, my milk supply plummets. I can fit into some of my pre-preg "big" pants but not any of my normal clothes yet. For whatever reason (maybe the bigger belly and boobs?) all of my tops are now too short. I lost 20 pounds by 6 weeks pp and only 3 since then.

  • I gained 35lbs total, but I had my Baby 3.5 weeks early due to Pre-E, so I would have gained a lot more than that. Right now I am 6lbs from my pre-preggie weight. :) Good luck!!
