Q- Size 2T clothes

How long was your LO in them? This is the size I am buying for the fall /winter for Cadence however the clothes seem to fit her perfectly already. I put a pair of 2T Old Navy cords on her this morning and there is a little bit of room to grow but I did not have to roll them or anything.

I know her growth should be slowing down now, but I'm wondering if I should be getting some 3T's too as I'm stocking up at consignment sales. Anyway I know all kids are different but was your kiddo in 2T for 3 months, 6 months, a year? Thanks!

Signed,

Clueless Katie

Re: Q- Size 2T clothes

  • I have found that Old Navy runs really small. I have to buy a size up for Geneva. She's in 2T right now and can wear anything from Target in a 2T fine. However, Gymboree's 2T is too big. I have to roll the jeans up a little at the bottom and the tops are a teeny bit big too.

Geneva's just moved into the 2T range and will probably stay there for most of the winter. I think most of it depends on the manufacturer of the clothing.

  • Audrey wore a 2T for a LONG time. At that age, they start getting smaller in the waist so I don't think you can really determine how they'll fit her later based on her size now. Their bodies are really funny that way. Clothes that were tight in the waist on Ethan at 18 months are now falling off. I guess what I'd check for mostly is length. She's not going to get any shorter.
  • Hey Kim, good to see you on here!

The length is just right now..so no room to grow.

Myra- thanks for the tip about the Old Navy sizing..the Children's Place jeans (24 months..I don't think they have 2T?) fit the same way. I'll have to start stalking the Gymbo clearance racks in a month or so if those have a bit more length to them Big Smile

  • My 19 month old son is wearing a pair of 12 month shorts and a 12 month shirt today and wore a pair of 6-9 month jeans yesterday, so I am clearly no help except in saying that Tommy Hilfiger and H&M both run incredibly big.

Totally forgot about H&M, but you're right. Their stuff lasted forever because it ran so big. Kind of a bummer that their toddler stuff isn't nearly as cute as the baby stuff...

  • Ethan is 2 1/2 and I'll be purchasing 3T in pants/jeans and anywhere from 3T to 4T in tops.  It depends on where I buy his clothes.  If I go to BRU or Children's Place then I'll buy 3T.  If I go to Target or Kohls, I'll get 4T tops.  He was wearing a 2T when he was around 1 1/2 and was in the size for about 6 to 8 months.

Also, Ethan is tall and skinny and he needs the 3T pants for the length, but they are usually a little too big in the waste.

Yeah, their baby stuff is great, and the good news is Finn still fits in it, because it is SO freaking big. Really, really big.

  • Last year.  IT was a lot of wear...we seems to have skipped size 3 though as much of it was worn this summer and got too small.  Its frustrating!  I had bought a bunch of stuff ahead at carter's for last year and had to sell all the 24m stuff as it was not big enough, but the 2T worked fine.  We did wear some 3T depending.
  • We've been in 2T for a year. The 2T still fits in the waist, but his pants are too short so we've moved to a 3T and a belt. I would say buy a few things in 2T to her her thru and then get some 3T.

  • I never really go by the sixe (ie 2T, 3T,etc.)  I always go by the weight/height limits.  There's too much variation in the way clothes are made by different brands.  So Carter might be wearing a 4T one day, and a 2T another.  Just depends on the brand.

This drives me insane when people give us clothes as gifts.  They always ask what size the kids are, and I always tell them how much they weigh, and ask them to go by that and not the generic size.  while the gifts are very generous, i don't think the giver takes into account the amount of time i spend returning and exchanging items b/c they don't fit. yes, i'm a brat.

  • i just realized that i never answered your question.  Approximately 9-12 months is the length of time that my kids will last in a certain size.
  • Definitely don't use ON as your guide for how long a particular size will fit, they run soooo small.  Usually if my boys are wearing a certain size in general (like 2T), they wear a size up at ON and Polo.  Jack has been in 2T since warm weather started, and I've bought all his winter clothes so far in 2T.  I imagine he'll be in it for 9-12 months, total.  Like others have said, his main issue is around his waist at this point.  He doesn't have one, so belts and adjustable waist pants are a must!
