How old was your LO when you took him/her out in public for the first time? DD has been to the dr. and to Target. We're considering bringing her to church this week, but are hesitant b/c so many people will want to touch her, and therefore expose her to germs.

    Our ped said no church for 8 weeks.
    Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.

    We went to a July 4th bbq at a friends house when he was 2 weeks old.  He stayed in his carseat or in my arms the whole time.  We still haven't been back to church because we don't want to have to leave him in daycare.  

    If you leave your LO in the carseat or in a sling, no one will touch her... hopefully.

    2 weeks, after our first pedi appointment when he said it was ok - he did say places like Target are probably safer than church because nobody knows you and people are unlikely to try to touch your baby.  Maybe put a blanket over the carrier (like a tent) so people aren't as inclined to try and touch her?

    She was about 4 days old during shopping trips and 2 weeks old when we went to a friends house

    #1 rule - don't let people touch her. Hold her swaddled and close to you, and when someone goes to touch her, just turn the baby away.

    I brought the baby outside as soon as I was able to bring her home from the hospital - about a week old.
    The fresh air is wonderful for newborns and i always had her in a sling, so nobody touched her and she was close to me. I didn't bring her to any other places til she was about 3 weeks - like an outdoor market. But again, she was in a sling and totally fine.

    We took DD to the grocery store on our way home from the hospital. She was 3 days old.

    At church, can you just not let people touch her? Blame swine flu if you have to get firm with someone.

    Was she full-term and healthy? If so, you shouldn't need to be overly cautious - just use common sense and go with your gut.

    Will be with myself and DH and grandparents this weekend (2wks of age) for a musical (7 brides for 7 brothers)

     

    Can we say "Mommy going stir crazy staying at home"???

    Waited 6 weeks, except for Pediatrician visits and even then we waited in the car until it was time. Why risk it by going to Target?

    She was about 2 weeks old. Just make it clear that people can look at not touch.
