Babies: 0 - 3 Months

How big are your 3 mo old's bottles?

DD is fed only with expressed BM.

So DD started at the sitter this week and I would send 3 bottles with 4.5 oz in each, and 1 with 4 oz.  In a 10 hour span, she would eat all of them. Sitter said that usually babies at this age should be going 3-4 hours between bottles and that I should up the oz in the bottle. So today I sent 3 bottles with 6 oz and 1 4oz. I have fed her 6 oz at a time before (at night) but I feel like these bottles for during the day are huge!!

How big of bottles does your 3 month old eat? Formula or BM? Thanks!

Will baby #3 be another girl?

  • My Little Girl drinks 4 oz every 3 hours. During the day.

  • My daughter will be 3mo. next week - she's eating about 5oz's every 3 hours (formula).

  • At 3 mos she was drinking 5- 6oz bottles...they should be consuming about 32oz a day.
  • I don't pump enough for DD to only have BM during the day so we switch on and off between BM and formula...that being said her bottles are never more than 4oz.  I've also heard that with BM you don't have to necessarily up the oz...that your BM naturally evolves to keep up with LO needs (i.e. fat content, etc.) as they get older.  This is what my LC told me anyway.
  • Well, I think boys typically eat more and DS has been a big eater from the beginning, but he eats 7oz every 4 hours during the day (4 per day) and a 6oz bottle before he goes to bed.

    ETA:  He's FF.

  • DD takes 3-5 oz bottles every 3 or so hours during the day of EBM.

  • Exclusively breastfed babies up to 6 months have a daily average intake of 25 oz per day (with a full range of 19-30 oz).  For 10 hours of day care, your LO should be eating slightly less than half her daily intake.  22 oz seems like way too much if she's not sleeping through the night.

  • My guys eat anywhere from 5-7.5 oz every 4 hours. Usually their "big" feedings are between 10am-1pm and the last bottle before bed.

This is us as well. DD eats every 3 hours during the day and goes about 12 hours at night sleeping. She is FF

  • During the day, DS eats 4oz bottles of formula w/ oatmeal every 3.5 to 4 hours.

It's not uncommon for 3mo olds to take 6oz of EBM. Adding oatmeal to my son's bottles thickens it up, so he eats less.

Right before bed, he will take 5-6oz and 5-6oz first thing in the morning most times.

  • Oliver drinks 6oz of formula every 3 hours.  He goes about 9 hours at night without feeding.  He has his first bottle either at 4am or 7am & his last at either 6pm or 9pm depending.

  • My DS drinks 7oz every 4 hours during the day. He is formula fed too. He sleeps thru the night but has been doing that for a while now. The pedi recommended we feed him 7oz even though it seems like a lot to me. but its working out for us so i'm gonna continue with 7oz until we get to cereal.
  • I send 5 5oz bottles of EBM for DD. She usually eats every 2-3 hours. She does take the full 5oz. She does sleep through the night. I work 12 hour shifts, and most days she will take 4-5 bottles until I get home around 8pm then I will BF her one more time before she goes to bed.

See how she does today with the 6oz bottles and go from there.

    Cute Baby!!!

I was wondering were you got his O State onsie? We are also OSU Fans and Alumni! Hard to find OSU baby clothes.

  • 6 5oz bottles and 1 6oz bottle right before bed.
  • DS was doing 3-4 oz every 3-4 hours, ocasionally he would take 5 or 6 oz and slept 7-9 hours at night until I went back to work. This past week he started eatting 4-5 oz every 3-4 hours, sometimes 6 oz. This morning he took 7 oz Indifferent. He's on BM only. I hope I can keep up with pumping. ...

  • I EBF, so DS rarely gets a bottle, but when he does, he'll only drink 3-4 oz. Pedi says that's a lot for BM. The composition of your BM changes as your baby ages, so it varies from kid to kid. You can't use formula volumes to judge a BF child, either.
