I know it's a little early for me to be thinking about this, but I've been contemplating making my own baby food when the time comes. Anyone done this or have recipe/website suggestions? TIA
I plan on just cooking up fruits and veggies and pureeing them in our magic bullet to start... I don't cook with a lot of sauces/seasonings so most of what I end up cooking will just be plain food mushed in the magic bullet (like rice, chicken, pastas, etc.). I'm looking forward to watching my son taste new foods - and making funny faces based on the textures and tastes! lol... you'd think he is tasting lemons when we give him water for the grimace he makes!

I've been thinking about this too, and I have this website book marked. I think if you do it on a Sat or Sun. and freeze for the week it won't be too time consuming. But how do you really know until you're actually doing it. I'm think I will try it, but I'm not opposed to Gerber.
I did for my DD. I used mostly frozen veggies, cooked them, put them in either the blender or food processor with a little water and then froze them in ice cube trays. You can make a lot at one time and it's really easy to do. I did use baby food from the store for things that were more difficult to make or ingredients that I didn't feel like dealing with. I'll do it again for this baby too.
I also bought the book 'Top 100 Baby Purees' by Annabel Karmel. I got it at Williams Sonoma on a whim and it was helpful. The web site pp gave is very helpful too.
I used some jar food with dd, but I made a lot of it. I did not freeze it though. Just made it every couple of days and placed it in the refrigerator. One easy recipe to do is boil carrots til soft, place in food processor and add orange juice and puree. This is the only way dd will even eat carrots still.
I didn't give her this until she was at about 9 months though. I have read that jar carrots are better nutrition wise, but not sure why. Have fun with it. It's not as scary as it sounds. If you need any other recipes, let me know.
Thanks ladies! You make it sound so easy. Another question: what do you think of the Beaba Babycook from Williams Sonoma? It looks like a good idea, but I'm not sure it's worth the price.
Re: Anyone planning on making their own baby food?
I've been thinking about it and actually posted a couple of weeks ago. Here was a website someone referred me to. It appears to be very informative.

I made most of the boys' food, but that was mostly because I was broke.
It was pretty easy. I threw veggies in the blender, froze in ice cube trays, then popped them out & stored them.
I did the same with turkey, chicken, etc.

Absolutely!
There is also a Nestie who blogs her baby-food-making fun. You can see how/what she has done.
I plan on doing this, it's how my mom fed me as a baby.
