Thought I would post this on this board as well as my local board, as I have spent so long finding the perfect daycare, and I know how hard it is to find a quality place to take care of your tiny baby that can't talk to you and tell you how they are being treated!
My daughter went to ****** Dayschool (in Portland Oregon) for 7 weeks in June/July 2009. During that short amount of time, there were numerous issues. They had my 10 week old daughter in the Toddler Room the entire time. They didn't maintain the proper ratio of 4:1 for infants, or even 6:1 for toddlers. There were several times that I would pick up my daughter in the evening and there would be 8-10 toddlers in the room, with one very inexperienced "teacher" watching them all. The state of Oregon requires Teachers to have one year of experience and certain qualifications. This daycare doesn't adhere to these rules, and they frequently will have "teaching assistants" working alone with the kids.
There were several times that there was no one sitting at the front desk when I came to pick up my daughter. This made me feel like any freak could have come in and grabbed a kid easily.
My daughter was sent home in random clothes and different diapers that didn't belong to her, even though they did have extra clothing and diapers there if she needed a clothing change.
There were also numerous billing mistakes, the Director can't do basic math and tried to send us to collections after I pulled my daughter out. DH was able to rectify this by pulling all of our reciepts and going back in and talking to her. She was very rude about it. We ended up paying a little more than we actually owed, because we didn't want to give a 2 week notice, we just wanted her OUT immediately. As I told DH, I would gladly pay extra money to have her out of that hellhole.
After I pulled her out, I called the State of Oregon childcare offices to report them and have them do a walkthrough, and the lady that I spoke with said that this name was VERY familiar to her, and that she hasn't heard any positive things. She also directed me to this website where you can view the history of any licensed daycare in Oregon: https://www.emp.state.or.us/ccd-complaints/results-detail.cfm?LIC=CC052212
Then yesterday I was at the Mall and ran into one of the girls that used to work there. She said that she was so happy that we pulled Bianca out of the daycare, because they "treat the kids like sh!t" and "would leave them in poopy diapers" and "yell at them if they wouldn't lay down during naptime". She had to sign some kind of confidentiality form while she worked there. She quit a few days after we pulled our daughter out, and she also called the State to report them.
She also told me that she heard the Director refer to my daughter, saying "this little B!tch keeps throwing up on me, I'm so tired of her". Even just typing this out makes me want to go back there and slap her. Who says that about a baby?!?
Anyway, if you have any questions, feel free to PM me and I will give you more details. If I can save one kid from this horrible daycare, I will be happy! Best of luck to everyone in their daycare search!
Oh, and Bianca is in a fantastic daycare now, we are thrilled with our new provider!
****** the name of the daycare has been edited out by me. You can click on the link provided for more information from the State's website. PM me if you want more info. Thanks!!
Re: XP: Really bad daycare (Portland, Oregon)
I am going back to work in 3 weeks and this quote makes me want to cry! So glad you found a better daycare
I know. Everytime I think about it I get teary-eyed and pissed. What a hateful person. I have to drive by this place on my way home from work and every day I get SO pissed. I'm just so happy that I was able to figure this out quickly and pull her out before anything bad happened. Our new daycare is so wonderful that I'm very happy it all worked out the way it did, because she's doing so well in her new environment!!
OMG. That is soooo hurtful. I am happy that you got her out and found a good place.
