Is there a certain time of day that you think is better to give the bottle? My dh will be the one giving her the bottle. My pedi said at 2 weeks we should try introducing a bottle b/c I will be going back to work when dd is 3 months.
Also, how often did you give the bottle?
Re: BF moms that introduced bottles
Eek, two weeks sounds awfully early to me to introduce a bottle. Do you feel pretty confident that BF is going really well?
I've heard that evening is a bad time to try - babies are more likely to be fussy and not want to cooperate. Try mornings first, maybe?
See this is what I was thinking but I really like my pedi and thought if he said 2 weeks I should try it. I was originally thinking more like 3-4 weeks. I'm going to do a little more reading about this first.
For the last few days I have been giving the baby a bottle at the second morning feeding (the first one of the day where I'm actually awake lol). It has been going really well. In fact, I have actually noticed DD is getting BETTER at BF. Quicker latch and more efficient feedings. (Not sure if the bottle is what helps, but FWIW, I use Playtex Drop-ins).
I think the 4-6 week rule about introducing a bottle is good if you are having trouble with BF'ing, but I know many women that introduced the bottle since day one with no problems. It also depends on the personality of the baby.
The only reason I am hesitant to give more than one bottle a day right now is bc I don't want to mess up my supply.
You might love your pedi, but he's not LC ... In my BF class we were told not to use pump until 3 weeks if all possible to make sure your supply is well established. I think DS was 4-5 weeks when we started trying bottle, no particular time of the day, random tries. Also, keep in mind that once you go back and LO gets more than 1 "training" bottle a day he/she might give your caregiver hard time. DS decided he will dictate if he wants a bottle or breast so our caregiver had to fight with him a few times. He also turned his head from me and cried until he got a bottle as well. GL !
My advice is: Don't introduce a bottle if you can help it
My LC and I both think that the intro of the bottle caused our DS to start to prefer the bottle, which then caused the downward spiral of BF for me. Our Pedi insisted for LO to take Poly-Vi-Sol and I had to dilute it in BM, and 1 bottle led to two to stop his "colic".
The colic turned out to be his preference for the bottle coming forth...
I did see an LC and she said it wouldn't hurt to introduce the bottle at 2 or 3 weeks because she really doesn't believe in nipple confusion and considering I have an oversupply it would be harder for dd to get milk from a bottle than from my nipple. I DO trust her, I was miserable the first week and now we are both doing 100% better and so happy due to the LC's recommendations.
