Originally my midwife estimated I would be due around 22nd of December, so DH and I were thinking "around Christmas" and possibly even a January baby (which is especially funny in my family because nearly EVERYONE's birthdays are in January, including my own).
Then, when I had my 12-week scan the baby measured at 14 weeks, which changed my EDD to 10th of December. I knew the significant day it fell close to, which was the passing of my mother on the 15th in 1995...but I'm honestly okay with it. I feel it would almost be an honor for my child as it's seen as such a gloomy day every year as her loss was very painful to deal with, like any loss of a mother would be, and now it could potentially be seen as something wonderful for a change. My family (mainly aunts/uncles/Nan) on the other hand, would all clam up the second I announced the day. They seemed shocked that I would be okay with it, so it appears that maybe it's affecting them a little more than me. They've all vocalised that they hope LO is not born then, while, as I said, I would be totally fine with it.
Does anyone else have an EDD that falls on or around a significant day in your life?

Ours falls on my brother in law's bday and a friend's bday. He's going to come early though so it wont be that day ... at least that's my bet!
EDD is one day after SIL's bday.
C-section date is DH's grandmothers and cousins bday and 2 days after my grandparents anniversary. Aaaaaaaand, it is opening day for deer season - so I won't be seeing much of my dad or brothers until the week after the baby is born, lol.
Our families don't have a ton of birthdays in November, but for whatever reason, other significant things tend to happen right around our due date. Just a small ex: We closed on our house last Nov. 21, baby is due Nov. 20. Lots of other small coincidences like that.
My EDD is four days before my grandma's birthday, 9 days before Christmas, and 15 days before my birthday. With my original EDD, I thought it'd be cool to have the baby on my grandma's birthday, but when it was moved up a week, I didn't want that anymore because I don't want to go late, and early on my OB said she wouldn't let me due to problems I had in both my previous pregnancies.
I think it'd be a nice way for your mom to be honored, and like you said, bring something good to that day, if your baby came that day.
My EDD is 6 days before Christmas which is also my birthday. For clarification, my birthday is December 25th, Christmas Day. My EDD is December 19th. I don't mind her being so close to my b-day and I wouldn't mind sharing a b-day with her, but I really don't want to be in labor on Christmas Day and my birthday! Plus, my OB has two small children at home and I don't expect her to put her Christmas on hold to come and deliver my baby.
However, I kinda figure that it works out ok, because at least I will always know how it is to have a birthday so close to Christmas and I know lots of ways to make it special for her.
LO's EDD is Oct 17th. Several people in our family have birthday's near that time and are always telling me, 'I hope he comes early on my bday!' or 'I hope he stays in there just a few more days so he can be born on my bday!' It really annoys me. I want my LO to have his own special day! The only day I'd be comfortable with him being born on that is someone else's bday would by my grandmother's, who passed away 11 years ago and this would have been her first great grandchild and would bring so much joy to our family on that day, instead of the sadness we sometimes till feel (which we will always miss her no matter what). Otherwise, I want my LO to have his own day to celebrate, but I'll be thrilled to see him whenever he gets here!
