3rd Trimester

WWYD?

For about 3 hours I have only felt my baby kick maybe 5 or 6 times. ?I have been relaxed, and drinking fluids the whole time.

She is usually very active late at night and I know I have read that if it takes longer than 2 hours to get 10 kicks to go in. ?She's been putting pressure on my rib cage, but no kicks.

?

What would you do??

Re: WWYD?

  • Babies get lazy. If I felt some movement, i wouldn't worry. Call your doc in the morning if you are still concerned.

  • Under normal circumstances, I'd probably wait it out till morning and then call my OB nice and early. However, having read the post earlier about that poor woman losing her baby, I'm inclined to be more wary of decreases in movement -- I'd probably call my on-call nurse to get some peace of mind, with the knowledge that she'd probably tell me to go into L&D.

  • To follow up, I say that NOT to scare you, as it's true that babies do have lazy days -- mine certainly has. I just wanted to answer as honestly as possible.

I think that is what is making me extra paranoid. ?But, she was pretty quiet yesterday too and that is making me doubly paranoid. ?I think i am going to take a shower, lay down, and if she's still being so quiet I will call my on call nurse.?

Good plan. I went into L&D around 35 weeks due to decreased movement, and the nurses there were SO supportive and assured me that they ALWAYS encourage women to err on the side of caution and come in/call if they notice less fetal activity. In other words, don't worry about seeming "paranoid" -- this is part of what L&D nurses are on the clock to do.

This is exactly what I was gonna type out.

  • Try eating or drinking something sweet, too, like OJ. Sometimes the sugar will wake them up.

But if I were in the same situation (and I was about a week ago) I would call your OB and they'll probably tell you to head to L&D so they can put you on a monitor.

Hoping it's nothing but a sleepy baby.

  • thanks girls!

    ?

I am drinking some water and eating a snack with some sugar in it, so hopefully that will perk her up some. ?if not, I'll call my nurse line. ? ?She's been still in the shower and since I first posted which amazes me since this is usually dance party time in my belly!

  • My LO definitely has her quiet days as well, and they never fail to worry me!  And then other days, she goes nuts in there.  I've started to relax about it a bit, but if I didn't get the 10 movements in two hours and was worried about it, I wouldn't hesitate to call.

    Hope she perks up soon!

  • don't hesitate to call your ob if you are concerned...remember, that is their job and they shouldn't make you feel bad even if it is nothing. hopefully she is just tired tonight:)
